Such a nice beach! We were in the area and wanted to stop off somewhere for a little sun, sand, and to listen to the waves. We tried another beach further north but it wasn't for us. We weren't prepared to hike down a steep trail or walk a long trail in the hot sun. We just wanted a little Pacific Coast beach time and we lucked out! This ticked all the boxes. The beach is pretty easily accessible from the parking lot - a very slight sloped walk - maybe 50 feet long?
There were families there, some fishermen further down the beach, some adults just lounging (that would be us!). Fantastic way to spend a few hours.
There is a small entry fee of $8.00.

Came upon this beach while cruising south on the PCH from the Bay Area. Very easy access, quiet, uncrowded, and unspoiled. Peaceful and windy and perfect for a meditative walk with a loved one or alone. A storm was brewing which made it even lovelier.
We walked and scouted sea glass and found several nice pieces. This is perfect for just a little stop in your travels or to spend a day. Picnic tables are available but no one was there to use them.
One person was fishing as we walked and there were wonderful rock cliffs where we said hello and goodbye to a starfish. Enjoy.

The group of us stopped here for a little hike and to enjoy the beach. The weather was cool when we arrived but the sun came out and the people were enjoying the water and the flowers and all that a sandy beach offers. I could not believe how many different flowers there were. I downloaded the app called PICTURE THIS to identify them. It was great! Plenty of parking, too,

We wanted to halt at Half Moon Bay in the AN on a Friday on our way to Carmel via California Route 1 but found the place very crowded . So , we drove further north about 12 miles and spotted a small beach with easy access from road , almost empty but for a few couples relaxing in the sun on the lagoon. While there are high sandstone cliffs all around , the beach itself is fairly flat ,with a good parking facility and offers good privacy.
Named after Jose Pomponio , a Bolinas Native American outlaw , the beach offers some gorgeous views of the ocean .There is no food available and for any logistics, you need to travel to San Gregario town 3miles away .There is no camping grounds and dogs are not permitted in the beach. This beautiful beach is defenitely worth a halt if you are traveling on Route 1.

This beach is very nice and easy to get to. It is about 15 miles south of 92 and 1 in Half Moon Bay. Parking is $8 and bring exact change. There are bathrooms in the parking lot, but I was told to avoid them.

I was driving two of my granddaughters to Half Moon Bay, after visiting San Mateo County Memorial Park. We saw the sign for Pomponio State Beach and decided to stop for a while. My two granddaughters spent over an hour alternately wading in and fleeing from the surf while I strolled along the beach admiring the view. We watched surfers off-shore and some egrets beside a large tidal pool. Our visit was a relaxing break from the drive and worth the admission fee.

Relaxing beach. Clean and beautiful. So many things to do . No food options nearby and traffic can be messy.

This is a beautiful sandy beach with a million photo ops. Nice little lagoon between beach and highway. Good family beach. Parking lot fills up on nice weekends.

We came with our daughter and grandsons on a recent visit to Sunnyvale. I have to say, this is one of the more beautiful beaches in the area. There is a small stream that flows into the ocean from the mountains and it seems a much better pace for little ones to play in the water. You don't have to worry about them getting knocked down. And they loved it!

It's a beach, not particularly attractive, but lots of sand and surf (no swimming - it's cold and rough). This may be a jaded viewpoint but I like beaches w trees, or at least something to love in the view

Can we go swimming in the lagoon? Is it suitable for children? How cold is the water?
