Whether you want to hang out on the beach or walk the coastal trail this is a great place to be. You can spend all day walking on the trails and hanging out on the beach. It is about half mile to the beach/cliffs. But if you can make it, it's well worth the walk.

A beautiful beach with cliffs and plenty of sea life to view. Bring a camera for the incredible views. Something else to put on your to-do list. Nice relaxing stop for everyone.

Cowell Ranch has limited free parking, many park on Hwy 1. It is about a quarter mile to the overlook and then about 50 railroad tie steps to the beach. Use the portable bathroom in the parking lot before you venture out. This is a great beach for sunbathing, but not good for swimming, very steep drop off only a... More

The map at the trailhead porta-potty states the walk is .3 miles - but this walk, although flat until you reach the North Beach stairs seems much longer than that. The Coastside Parks Association website states the walk is .5 miles. The South Beach is saved the seals - and the habitat is not accessible to pedestrian. The North Beach... More

A highlight of our trip was a walk along this trail. So beautiful with the mustard seeds and wild flowers.

The Cowell Trail (protected by the Peninsula Open Space Trust) is my favorite hike out on the Half Moon Bay coast. It is only open on the weekend, and no dogs are allowed, but this is one of the prettiest ways to take in both the gorgeous coastline and the lovely farmland that makes HMB so special. The trail is... More

Just out of town this will take you past farms on one side and beautiful ocean views on the other. The only downside is no pets. you can also access the beach via a long staircase. It almost looks like the Cliffs of Mojer in Ireland!!

The .3 mile walk allows you to see farming of brussel sprouts, given the time of year and a nicely kept gravel trail they takes you to an overlook that is beautiful. You can travel down 30 stairs or so to the beach, which is very nice. On a lower tide day, you can walk petty far to the north,... More

Cowell Ranch State Beach is a pretty beach in Half Moon Bay area., We have enjoyed stopping here and taking a walk to the beach area; it is around a 1/2 mile walk to the beach. As such, it is less populated but beautiful state beach.

Very nice beach that is secluded off of Highway 1; small parking lot and then a 1-10 minute walk on a trail through some farmland to get to the beach. Long stairs to get down to the beach; very private; Nice 1.5 mile coastal trail starts near the beach stairs.
