There are tons of spectacular things to do in Half Moon Bay, but by far, our favorite is surfing with Tommy Tsunami. This trip, we had three small kids with us and the instructors handled them so well. I appreciate their focus on safety and instruction. I've surfed with other school that are more interested in photos and Instagram posts than the former. All the kids stood up multiple times and were begging to go back. The instructors can handle groups with mixed skills well. I also really appreciate that there is a good mix of female instructors on Tommy roster (that really motivated my daughter and niece). Tommy has built a business that has quickly become a cornerstone of the community, and lessons with his team are a great way to feel like a local!

My 15-year-old daughters just finished a week at Tommy Tsunami’s surf camp…they had an absolute blast. Tommy, Peter and Garret and the entire team do a terrific job in teaching and engaging with kids of all ages, Tommy was also very professional and responsive in terms of his communications regarding the camp and lessons. Both my girls were up and riding waves in no time…and are now saving up to buy their own boards so they can continue surfing. This camp was a huge bonus during a summer where all other sports and training have been canceled – kids are outdoors, doing physical activity and having fun…would highly highly recommend – also the private and semi-private lessons are available too and great way to get familiar with surfing!

My daughters wanted to try out surfing, and I am so glad we signed up with the Tommy Tsunami surf team. Their online reservation system made it so easy to book/reschedule lessons. The friendly reminder text the day before was appreciated and I was able to re-confirm on the day of the lesson. The meeting spot is very convenient, make it a picnic day while you watch your kids surf. The surf instructors were very patient with my girls, they said the directions were easy to follow. My daughters were standing on their boards within minutes, and now they want to sign up for surf camp.
I highly recommend using Tommy Tsunami, especially for teens.

I have been trying to reach them for 3 days and have tried all the methods. They do not return calls, emails, or text messages. I am asking for simple information about lessons during a tightly scheduled trip. Where is the customer service for those who are not native to your area? Disappointing.

We had the best time learning how to surf from Tommy! Having tried one other time with little success, we weren't sure what to expect but Tommy had us both successfully standing on our boards and surfing within 5 minutes. Tommy and his team set up a very relaxed and supportive vibe, and made us confident enough that we'd like to rent boards again next chance we get. Highly recommend!

My grandchild was part of one of Tommy Tsunami Surf Camps this summer. I am a professional coach myself and was very impressed with the staff and instruction provided. Students were given many hours of personal and group instruction with great success at the end of the day and week. The staff kept them busy and having fun. I have signed him up for another camp and recommend Tommy Tsunami Surf Camp to all interested surfers!

Both kids (age 10 and 13) had a blast at Tommy's camp. Starting with high quality equipment and surfing gear, great instruction and focus on surfing. Nice stretching in the morning before going into the water teaching kids good self care habits.

This was an incredible first surf experience for our seven year old son. Tommy and Peter are so patient and knowledgeable and also have a great way of pushing the kids without overdoing it. I would absolutely recommend this program to surfers of all ages- including more advanced surfers.

I can not say enough positive things about Tommy and his brother Pete! I reached out to them about a group lesson for 3, 10 year old kids. They responded quickly, answered all of my questions, and had online waivers for the parents to fill out. We scheduled 3 lessons, during the 1st lesson the kids learned some basic skills and by the time it was over they had all successfully caught there first wave. The confidence they gained from the 1st lesson carried over to the next 2 and they are all dying to go back. Tommy was very patient, supportive, and genuinely cared that they not only learn to ride but that it is also a fun experience. Do not hesitate to book them, you will not be disappointed.

14 year old granddaughter has taken lessons with this company before but this year while visiting from out of state she is taking private 90 minute lessons twice a week. Her first was this past week and she loved it. Instructor was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. I can’t say enough good things about this company
