Gualala River Redwood Park - Magnificent!
Jul 2020
OK. I have camped in so many campgrounds. My old favorite was a place in Humboldt County in a big grove of Redwoods and the Eel River. I thought that was pretty unique UNTIL I camped at Gualala River Redwood Park. Coming off HWY 1, which was harrowing, so say the least, then turning into the park with an even narrower road, we were thinking we had gone from bad to worse. WRONG. We pulled into what can only be described as a secret redwood forest hideaway. We were tucked into the most lush, green campground where the electrical hookups are on the trees and the cell phone service fades into non-existence. So does your stress. Our site was right next to the Cathedral Tree and we had enough space for 3 rigs and a tent. It was HUGE. There were trails all over the place. Fire Pit and shade. It was spectacular. I can't say enough about the setting. We stayed an extra day and would've stayed longer had our schedule allowed. It was so cool in the campground then a quick walk to the hot Eel River for some water fun. People were kayaking and floating, enjoying themselves and soaking up sun. The park was very attentive to social distancing and wearing masks. The park store was closed for entry but you could still buy things from a super nice lady at the door. Wood was sold by a park worker driving his cart around and all our camp neighbors were very respectful. Seriously, this place is wonderful. A must do. Close by is the cute little town of Gualala and the wonderful place to eat called Trinks. Also nice was the SURF market where you can buy BBQ ribs and Tri-tip. There is some really great local art in the area and a Farmer's Market on Saturday.

Serene...feels like a whole different world down here. River is beautiful and grounds are kept clean. The road to the park is narrow, but it is only a couple miles.

Absolutely no phone service, so we had to purchase a WiFi package ($45 for the week).

If you like being in the redwoods then this is the perfect RV Park/Campground. Beautiful spacious spaces, very quiet and relaxing. Easy access to the river, friendly staff and they will bring firewood to you.

Wow! That was my first reaction as we drove into the park. This was the densest forest I had ever been in. It was like a fairytale forest. Then when it gets dark it's a scary forest. :) I was happy to have a fire at night. The trees are so thick that you can hardly see the sky, but we had a river front spot that is at the edge of the forest so we could see plenty of sky. I would defiantly stay riverfront again. Plus we had easy access to explore the river area with our dogs.
The hookups are electric and water and there is a dump site by the exit. The restrooms are clean and the showers need quarters. There is a little store where they have essentials and where we got ice cream. There is also a laundry room and playground.
It's a great place to walk around and admire the beauty of this amazing forest. We went during the week in August and it was so quiet I could hear the birds wings flap as they flew by. It was like we had the place to ourselves. But as we were leaving ALOT of people were coming in.
There is no wifi or cell phone signal in the park at all so my phone was just a camera. It was kind of nice to disconnect like that. It made it even more peaceful.
I don't know what it's like when it's busy but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We really wanted to love this campground, since we love camping in the redwoods. The pricing is ridiculous as everything from extra people and cars is charged a steep extra fee. Pricing should be like our state campgrounds. The showers are nice (charged) but there is only one tiny bathroom in the whole campground, with two sinks and a few stalls. Certainly subpar for what we paid in fees. The campground was very noisy, with little effort by the owners to keep it quieter.

This is a really great campground. Large spacious sites in a super quiet redwood forest. Easy river access and cool playground for kids and teens. Lots of trails and super large redwood trees. So quiet even when full its almost spooky. Don't pass this one up! Full services electric and sewer.

This campground shows the pride of the owners. It is beautifully shaded, with huge redwoods. The camp sites are nicely spaced, where we were comfortable allowing the grandchildren to just play. There is a slow running shallow river with a clean rock surfaced beach. Great for kayaking, swimming or just watching it. No fish in this river.
My concerns about this campground are the prices. The general store is well supplied but costly. The showers are nice, but again, costly at $1.25 for 5 min. With PITIFUL water pressure. This is the place to go to to disconnect from technology, as there is no tv signal, no cell and only very slow wifi to purchase.
We were there for a week, loved our time there with the grandchildren and they didn't want to leave! We will probably return as we loved the quiet and the location to the Mendocino coast.

While traveling with friends to a winery, we stumbled update n this beautiful drive through redwoods. You travel along The Navarro River through impressive ancient trees. We stopped to take a short walk to get a sense of their size and were amazed! Lovely drive!!

I have some amazing memories at this place. Been here several times as a young man and now as an middle age man (51). My girlfriend, daughter and I love this place for its lush forest and easy drive to town and the coast. With friends, I have been kayaking (they offer for rent) in the river which held a beautiful emerald green color and was warm enough to swim in. My dog (min pin) felt like he was a wild fox lol, he loved it too! Campers are plentiful depending on when you go, all have been pretty quiet and friendly when I've gone. There is a play area where Ping Pong Ball, Basket ball, Baci Ball and Horse Shoes can be enjoyed. Every camp site has power and water. For RVs, they have a dump area upon exiting the park. For Drivers and fishermen, they offer a nice fish cleaning area. When I brought my girlfriend, she literally said "Its the most beautiful place I've ever been"
