About
Sierra Mac specializes in Tuolumne River Rafting, Merced River Rafting and Yosemite Rafting Trips. We were first the outfitter on the Merced and Tuolumne Rivers and the pioneer in opening Class V Cherry Creek to commercial rafting. Founded in 1965, Sierra Mac is a locally based, family-owned business. We are located just 15 miles outside Yosemite's northwest entrance on Highway 120, perched above the Tuolumne River canyon. Our experienced guides are privileged to host your Yosemite rafting trip. Escape the crowds and connect with yourself, your friends, and the rivers of Yosemite.

When I discovered whitewater rafting a few years ago, I would consistently hear the name of one river, Cherry Creek. The most exciting, the most thrilling, the gnarliest river in North America, they said.

It was a few years, and a number of "practice" rivers, before I felt like I was ready to try Cherry Creek. This week, I finally did, and from what my guide from Sierra Mac told me, I was on the river the very first day of the commercial season.

Everything about the Sierra Mac operation is first class. Marty, the founder, has been rafting these rivers since before I was born. His son and Sierra Mac co-owner, Tom, was our guide on our trip down the creek. Fellow guide Adam felt like the spirit of the river itself. I also appreciated the resilience of Sierra Mac, after the 2020 season was interrupted by COVID, and the 2021 season required them to start rafting later in the day than they had before, due to the timing of water flows from the upstream dams.

Whatever it took, these guys did it. They did it safely, and they made sure we had fun. I would love to raft with Sierra Mac again. If you don't have experience, go with them on one of their other runs, which aren't as challenging as Cherry Creek. But if you want the most challenging whitewater on the continent, and you've got experience at Class III/IV or more, then by all means sign up for Sierra Mac's Cherry Creek run.

This outfitter knocked my socks off on the Cherry Creek rafting trip! Super experienced guides knew every rapid on the river and how to set up and approach for a safe and exciting run. This river is Epic! Full of Class IV and V rapids. By the end of the day my face hurt from smiling so much! Physically demanding and technically challenging, yet the skill and knowledge of the guides made it an awesome experience! You will definitely get more than your money's worth from Sierra Mac. Over and over, we would get through the rapids, and I would look back upstream and say to myself, "Wow! I can't believe we just did that!"

This was my first time rafting and I’m glad it was with Sierra Mac. A few friends and I booked a two day adventure and had a great time from start to finish. Our guides (Heather, Rhea, and Daniel) were super knowledgeable and were fun to interact with. Our boat had Heather as our guide and she kept us safe, but allowed us to enjoy the river inside and outside of the boat. Meals were very good, filling, and made fresh with quality ingredients. I will definitely be back next year and I would also recommend this trip to anyone thinking of doing it.

We just did a one-day rafting session with Sierra Mac and it was amazing! Tom and Marty and everyone else on staff are extremely supportive and made me feel at ease (it was my first time!). There was a slight change in our scheduling but the Sierra Mac team were flexible, open about what was going on and easy to talk to on the phone.

We did the class 5 rapids at Cherry Creek and if there's one you're going to try, it's this one. Tom and Jeff led us through some training and paddling basics while I worked through my jitters but once we got going, it was great.

I totally recommend going with Sierra Mac if you want to give the rapids a go. We did the one-day trip which went for approx 8 hours so give yourself plenty of time. If it's your first time, you will feel sore afterwards and I'd also recommend a change of clothes for when you're done.

Overall, the Sierra Mac team was great and as a first time, they really took time to answer every question I had and walk through and repeat some of the concepts.

Exhilarating - not just the river but the experience provided by these great Guides/Outfitter. I took four novice groomsmen down the Class V Main during a massive April flow post-storm and instead of holding our hands, Tom taught the neophytes how to conquer. A core memory no doubt, highly recommend you put the fear of god into your soul through Sierra Mac River Trip! Abandon all hope, ye who enter.

We did a whitewater rafting trip down the Tuolumne River with 16 friends this last week. The trip was organized by our hotel, Rush Cree Lodge, and we had a blast. Father & son owners, Marty and Tom were extremely kind and helpful. I loved that Marty started off the trip by blowing his conch shell and leading a group harmonization. Our guide, Cooper, was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He made sure we all understood the rapid we were approaching and what we needed to do. Everyone felt totally safe and had the adventure of a lifetime. I also appreciated the time Cooper took to get to know us and all his jokes. I would recommend Sierra Mac's and their guides to anyone. The trip was full of fun and challenging rapids that were exciting and technical but not beyond the capabilities of some of my friends who had never rafted before.

Me and my boyfriend had never rafted, but wanted to give it a try. We were in town for a week long Yosemite visit/backpacking and wanted another adventure for our visit. They were super responsive/helpful in us deciding if this was something we could do (only trip that fit our schedule was class V). We had an amazing time, guides were so helpful/knowledgeable and made sure we stayed safe. The swim test was the most intimidating/scary part, but we definitely understood it was necessary for that type of trip. Lunch after was awesome too.

We got so many videos/pictures right after the trip. Definitely would recommend! We drove an hour from our hotel- it was easy to find/get to and worth the cost/drive

Excellent experience start to finish with sierra mac. This trip has it all. Guides are professional and entertaining. Our cherry creek 2-day trip with Steven, Daniel and all support staff was amazing. When things didn’t go according to plan on the river the guides handled it with calm and expertise. Cherry creek is not a trip for beginners, but they have options for all adventure levels. If you are looking for next level excitement with pros, I highly recommend sierra mac.

I went on my first white water rafting trip on July 4th through Sierra Mac and it was a great experience. Tom, Marty and the rest of the team are true professionals. The communication up until the day of the trip was excellent. All of the equipment (wet suits, life jackets, rain jacket and rafts) were in very good shape. The team was extremely knowledgeable about Cherry Creek and did a great job of coaching us the whole way through. I would definitely use Sierra Mac in the future and recommend them to friends and family

This was my first time with Sierra Mac and I will definitely be using them again in the future. All of our guides were friendly, knowledgeable and always ready to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed. Ray was the captain of my boat and she was amazing! She made the rafting a lot more fun and adventurous. There were 11 people in our group (6 under the age of 17 and 2 over the age of 70!) and every single one of us had a blast. I highly recommend using Sierra Mac for any rafting adventure.
