Owner and winemaker Scott Rich has been crafting Talisman Pinot Noir since 1993 and before that made wine at Etude in Carneros. The winery is in Sonoma but the tasting room is located in a quaint, 100-year-old historic building in Glen Ellen. The tasting room has the feel of someone's grandparent's home. Scott's lineup of single-vineyard Pinot Noirs are superb - take it from me who has written about Pinot Noir for the last 18 years in the PinotFile. Each bottling is typically 200-300 cases and represents an interesting terroir in Sonoma County. The wines age extremely well. Prices are in the premium Pinot Noir range. The tasting room is open daily but appointments are recommended.…

My wife and I recently visited the Talisman Wine tasting room in the village of Glen Ellen, Sonoma County, California. The winery specializes in pinot noir wines. It was a most pleasant wine tasting experience. Instead of bellying up to a massive counter and being hurriedly served the standard selection du jour, we were warmly greeting by a host with a taste of their refreshing pinot rose'. We then received information about the winery, its winemaking philosophy, and were provided a photo introduction to the growers providing pinot noir grapes to Talisman and some of the unique characteristics of each vineyard. We were then escorted to a private location in the tasting room, ours was a room with comfortable couches, and were presented several different pinot noir wines with a description of each. This was followed with queries from the host as to what we thought of the flavor, the texture and the aroma and were invited to compare and contrast each tasting. The host then asked what style of wine we preferred and offered a taste of a Talisman pinot that would likely meet our wine preferences. We never had such a wonderful exposure to pinot noir wines that had such different flavor profiles, from bright fruit forward to richer, dusky mineral flavors. We highly recommend this most pleasant and comfortable wine tasting. It is recommended that you call ahead and schedule your tasting. Be sure to ask for Grayson or Amanda, the excellent tasting room staff who will guide you through this experience.…

I've know about Talisman for a few years now but never made it to Glen Ellen to taste. With some relatives coming in to town I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to sate my curiosity. The sit-down tasting we booked was awesome. Grayson took great care of us, greeting us at the door with a glass of rose, and then continued to educate and wow us by sharing some beautiful Pinot Noirs. Absolutely some of the best Pinots I've tasted, I'm looking forward to sharing the wine I brought home with friends!…

We had a private wine tasting with winemaker Scott Rich. Scott was excellent company and passionate about making a wine. We also enjoyed Grayson who poured all our tastings. We appreciated the wall of photos of all the grape growers, after being poured the tasting and seeing the photos of the people that grew the grapes. We loved all the wines that had grapes from the Russian Valley was my favorite.…
