This is a review of the little cafe that is part of the gift shop. I've stopped in here a few times over the years. My kids always llked the smoothies. This time I was hungry for a bit of lunch, as I still had a long way to drive up 101. I got a grilled cheese on a croissant because it would be easy to eat while driving. The service was a bit slow, but there was only one young lady doing EVERYTHING. The sandwich was pressed down, which kind of defeated the purpose of the croissant, But the cheese was nicely melted and gooey. It hit the spot, although it was a bit pricey for what you got. My dog liked it too.

In the same area / pull out area along the Avenue of the Giants where the Grandfather Tree. It’s a nice area to stop and see the Grandfather Tree, the Log Home and several carvings. We stopped here while driving north toward the Redwoods State Parks and National Park.
Definitely stop here for 1/2 hour to check it out.

I've wanted to visit this place for years and finally got to stop. I was surprised to learn it was free to see the log house. Just go inside the gift shop and get the code for the house from the cashier. The house is so cute! Its really neat how they made a whole house out of one log....not that I would ever live in something like this....I'm way too claustrophobic. It is neat for a quick stop though.

One Log House in Garberville is now, primarily, a dispensary. For over 15 years I would stop here and get the most amazing espresso milkshakes. Today, no lunch items, no espresso, and bathrooms out of order. Bathroom must've been out for awhile because they sent my husband to the outhouse in the back. Sad to see it go downhill.

Since my wife and I are traveling the US in our 40' RV we thought it would be interesting to see the One Log House since it was at one time on wheels and the owner visited many areas with it. I was very surprised to see how much he was able to cram into that little space, even a bathroom. I cannot imagine how he was able to carve out the log so that it remained solid enough to transport. The interior walls feature articles about the House history. Take your tiem and read everything.
You get the feeling that he was a craftsman as well as a good carpenter. They only charge a dollar to see it and they are running the exposition on a shoestring. We got a kick out of it and went back to our big RV grateful for all of our modern amenities. If you are traveling on 101 in that area of CA stop there for sure, go next door to visit the Grandfather tree and a little down the road to Big Foot. They all add a certain charm to the beautiful drive through the Avenue of the Giants.

A good place to get out of the car, stretch your legs and see a piece of Americana. The gift shop itself is average but the bathrooms are clean. The log house itself is pretty cool, every by today's standards, but only takes a few minutes to walk through.

We really enjoyed the shop attached to the One Log House, which specializes in salmon jerky and Amercian Indian arts and crafts. The workers were very friendly and basically gave us a guided tour of the store,

I stopped at One Log House both on my way to and from Fort Bragg last week.

One Log House is both an attraction and a gift shop. The Log House itself was carved from a 2,000 year old redwood log in the 1940s. The log was hollowed out and turned into a house with the addition inside of a bedroom area, kitchen, and living room. The floor space is 7 x 32 feet. I thought this was an awesome idea - very cool! Sort of like a wooden trailer. Not totally practical, but very charming. You get the entrance code - which changes each day - in the gift shop - to let yourself into the log house. The fee is $1.00 on an honor system basis.

The gift shop sells souvenirs and ice cream. Their chocolate milkshakes are to die for! I had one both times I stopped!

There are an ATM and restrooms.

This is real 50s Americana!

Stopped on a whim and giggled my way thru the cute self guided tour. Well worth the stop to admire the interesting piece of nostalgic wood art. Go inside for marijuana and ice cream.

We weren't sure what to expect from the One Log House, but we couldn't resist the tourist stop! The Log House was really fun & quirky. Our girls think they would like to live in a tiny house like this! The entry fee was only $1.00 per person. The Italian Cream Sodas were wonderful (the best we've found on this trip)!
