We moved here from the East Coast, so topping my last running park which feature the statue of liberty and new York skylines is difficult, I also lived in Chicago and still believe lakeshore drive is the best running path in the nation. However, Woodward Park is an amazing, curvy, up and down, soft and activity filled park I'm very happy to be near. I have a 6 mile, 7 mile and 8 mile loop depending in trails, or I run up Friant for my long 15-17 miles paths. Everytime I run through Woodward I see potential. It could host operas. It has BMX tracks, Frisbee golf, lakes, fishing, and tons of fun hills and bike paths for kids. I truly love the place and am always happy to see it clean and maintained as it is. The fact Central Park cost $0 and this (if driving in) cost $5 at first seemed insane to me. However if I had a family and brought a backpack of food, $5 to keep the kids entertained for 12 hours with something new to do every time they get bored is money well spent. As long as we live in Fresno, I'll always be thankful for this park, occasionally pick up trash. Big warning. Read this part. Bathrooms. Gross. They are not flushing toliet, there is no seat. It is a hole in the ground, no sink, no nothing. So, be prepared for that. I rarely have to use the bathrooms because I'm usually running through, but in the occasions I have, lord are they gross. So avoid if at all possible. Leave the park, walk to a restaurant. Get a margarita. Use any bathroom besides the ones in the park.

I visited this Park during a recent trip to Fresno and it was a lovely surprise to come across such a lovely spot on the edge of Fresno. I wasn’t expecting it to be do expansive - with lakes, picnic areas, play areas for the kids, a dog park and amazing views of the snow covered mountains in the distance. There is also access to a walk/cycle route into the Central Valley itself. The Japanese Garden was closed the day we visited but there was plenty of other areas to explore. $5 entry fee but don’t be put off - the facilities are good and it’s well worth a small charge.

A pleasant park with many sports activities. The highlights were the Japanese Garden and all of the birds in the pond. There were hundreds including coots, wood ducks, cormorants, and geese. A fine place to spend a few hours.

Today I walked through the park to the connected Jensen River Ranch trail, and enjoyed a view of the San Joaquin River. Many people park in Ft. Washington shopping center and walk into the park for free. Woodward Park ($5 entry) offers a great variety of trails for every purpose. There is something for everyone. Walking the dog (there's a specific area, plus leashed dogs are welcome everywhere); bicycling; horseback riding; strolling in the Japanese Shinzen Garden (extra admission) or the Art of Life Healing Garden. There is a concert venue, and there are picnic shelters you can reserve.
