The Shinzen Friendship Garden is a traditional northwestern American Japanese Garden. The Garden was constructed to honor Fresno’s Sister City, Kochi, Japan, celebrating the spirit of understanding and promoting educational and cultural awareness.

The beauty, grace and serenity of Japanese design is present in the use of varied plant material, rocks and stones, and water throughout the five acre garden. The garden is designed around the four seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter; granite markers identify each section.

In the Fall of 2015 we were proud to be chosen to house and display the world-class Clark Bonsai Collection, which is now on permanent display in the garden, offering a seasonal rotation of some of the finest Bonsai in the United States.

Affordable and pretty place to visit. My only complaint is that the bonsai garden isn't always open. We were disappointed not to see it. We also felt like the pond/lake on the other side of the Koi was dirty. Otherwise the place has gorgeous trees and a great place to take photos.

Took a group of ladies ages 30-60 yo to this place and everyone enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Many photo spots and easy walking paths. Paths were paved and each area was labeled according to season. We really liked the tree museum where different types of trees (bonsai) were displayed with its origination story. We went in April around 3pm and... More

Lovely japanese garden packed full of plants, sculptures, Koi pond, and bonsai exhibit. Nice walking paths and great for everyone. Definitely worth $5 admission. I would of liked to see plant id tags though.

The Shinzen Japanese Garden is absolutely beautiful. If you are a amateur photographer~~this is the place for you. Well maintained, peaceful (great place to meditate) and a garden you will want to visit again and again. Would highly recommend a visit to the Shinzen Japanese Gardens.

It was a lovely morning and my husband and I went to Woodward Park to see the advertised bonsai exhibit. What a lovely treat. The Japanese Gardens are another gem in our area. It has beautifully manicured gardens that show seasonal colors. The water features are both visually and auditorial pleasures to enjoy. We meandered through the easily planned paths... More

This is truly a lovely place to visit! The garden is within Woodward park. For years I have taken my kids there. We have loved seeing the beautiful koi fish. There are always peacocks wondering around too. It is a tranquil and peaceful place. If you are driving, you will need to pay the park entrance fee and then there... More

Awesome, peaceful gardens! The beauty of the layout and ease of navigation is excellent and everything is kept neat, trimmed, clean. The peacocks can get a little noisy but their beauty more than makes up for that.

The main park is $5 to get in and then you have to pay extra to get into the Japanese garden. The bonsai garden was closed as was the tea house. We walked the open sections in 20 minutes making it not worth the extra time, money or heat. Maybe if everything was open, it would be worth it, but... More

Nice park with a decent length trail. You can walk it in under 30 minutes. Very nice scenery. A couple of exhibits were closed. Public restrooms available. Entry fee for a family of four was $7.
