You must contact Goldstone in advance and get permission to take a tour. It is located on Fort Irwin Army Base and if you are not on the access list you would have driven 35 miles from Barstow through the desert for nothing. They only tour by appointment only so please call way ahead and make sure you have access.…

The Goldstone Complex consists of several very large microwave deep space dish antennas that are used to communicate with outer space vehicles, such as the Mars Rovers. Visitors must register in advance, since this is a secure facility. Once on-site guests are taken on a vehicle tour of several of the extremely large, historic radio antennas. The tour also includes the mission control room and a small space museum. I'd recommend this tour to anyone who is an astronomy buff, or anyone who is interested in NASA missions.…

This was a wonderful journey to another NASA/JPL site; and one of 3 in the wortld that has a 70 Meter in Diameter Communications Antenna that can track 120 degrees! Its sisters are in Madrid,Spain and Canberry, Australia. They also had a great display of Space Suites; satellites that are still flying, and you get get up close to everything; we loved this place..…

Goldstone is the location of the massive antennas that are searching the universe for extraterrestrials as well as tracking the Mars expedition and missions to the edge of the universe. I have heard Goldstone references on NASA missions but never imagined the size of the antennas and the remote location. Even the locale is fitting for Goldstone as it is in a volcanic caldera.…
