The prison is a bit of a spot for Johnny Cash fans, but the museum is truly nothing to write home about. It has some interesting prison curiosities, but nothing noteworthy.

Small prison museum showcasing arts and crafts made by prisoners for sale. It's major claim to fame is the visit by the singer Johnnie Cash is the main draw to the prison and museum.

The building itself is small but packed full of memorabilia and a ton of great information. They have a continuous video playing off the main room where you can sit and watch and learn all about the prison from when it first opened to current. Also there is a back room with items prisoners have made and a whole Johnny Cash section with pictures and signed memorabilia. Some items are available for purchase up front such as tee shirts etc…

We were totally amazed at the history of this place and have recommended it to all our friends. When you have friends or family visiting our area be sure to put this museum on you list of places to see.

While I miss the old art shop that Folsom prison inmates ran, this museum is pretty awesome. My out-of-town family loves it and I always notice something new when I go!
