Take a ride on the sugar pine railroad, it's a fun trip. My wife was the one who wanted to ride the train and it turned out to be a great experience.

We had an amazing time riding the train. We went on a Friday in summer, which was busy but not crowded. Please see schedule cause the last train departure was at 2:00 pm. My kids had a blast panning for gold. The gentleman that runs the panning for gold is very accommodating, knowledge and entertaining. Don't forget the gift shop... More

Was a good change of pace from the National Park! amazing the regrowth of trees in 85 years! The history of the Sugar Pine railroad was interesting but the train was authentic.

We saw this on our way into Yosemite, and stopped on our way out. It's a quaint ride through the Sierra National Forest with commentary on the history of the lumberjacks. We sat in the logger train car. The family was comfortable after 4 full active days of hiking and exploring inside Yosemite. The train is a steam engine locomotive... More

While visiting Yosemite, the owners of the B&B where we were staying suggested we take our son on the Moonlight tour. So on Saturday night we went to the cookout dinner then on the train ride to the camp fire sing along. It was fascinating to ride the steam train. Our 9-year-old was fascinated. The camp fire sing along was... More

This was a great 1 hour train ride on a historic Shea train. You can just see the loggers of the past at work on the mountain! It was fun & just the right amount of time. I loved it!

The idea is great and the educational benefits for children were good too but we found it a bit boring. The various exhibits around the station were ok and run by volunteers I suppose but one guy was a bit abrupt and obviously didn't like kids much! The little shop was super and the hot chocolate on a cold day... More

I have been on a lot of tourist rides and this one was very nice, about an hour long and goes through some very nice and cool wooded parts of the forest just outside Yosemite. My husband and I were just a couple but it would be great for kids and groups. The staff was friendly and very informative.

Did this 20 years ago. Was fun again but seemed to be shorter with less info this time. However, how can you beat a steam engine going backwards?

We took our 4 children on the moonlight special. It was cute and hookey, but they loved it and still talk about it.
