One of the best beaches on the west coast of Tahiti Nui. Lots of locals around that greet you with a smile on their faces. Very welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. Surf here is a bit crowded throughout the day, since it’s one of the only beach breaks in Tahiti but it’s worth a visit. Recommend to go early, if you want to surf at this beach.

The beach is black sand which is unique to Tahiti, it feels a little more gritty than yellow sand but never the less it is a sight well worth seeing

I have seen black sand beaches before (like Santorini), but I have never seen one THIS black. It was amazing and beautiful.

We visited this black sand beach on a weekday afternoon. It is definitely a village hot spot. There were a lot of young people hanging out visiting, swimming and wakeboarding. Even though it was busy there was plenty of room for us to set up a couple of blankets and eat a picnic. A beach dog visited us for some snacks. Facilities are a bit rough.

We stopped by this park on a whim and were quite happy we did. Park in the lot near the roadside, then ascend a small hill to get to the gorgeous black sand beach. Watch surfers, or just listen to the unusual crackling sound the surf makes as it recedes over clusters of small volcanic rocks. I believe there are restrooms and a cafe but the building housing them was closed during our visit so I cannot say for certain. This beach is public and free.

Taharuu is one of the best beaches in Tahiti, out of town in beautiful Papara. Black sand, clean, great surf spot where there are always local surfers catching the waves. There's a very nice Snack-Restaurant offering local specialities. This place has been recently renovated, offering now better facilities and a lot of parking spaces. Great stop also on your Island tour!

Amazing spot. Brought my two boys (9, 6) there for an entire afternoon. They dug in the black sand a lot including finding buried wildlife, swam and waded a bit in the tiny freshwater 'lake' just before the river mouth, tried to catch river fish by hand, and played in the ocean waves. Myself and my wife relaxed, took many kid photos, and didn't have to worry about them getting hurt. I also swam in the surfer's area for a bit--exhilarating! Very friendly locals around including many surfers. Porta-potties, public showers, and foot sprayer on-site.

A black sand beach that has great waves for surfing. It has good car parking and toilet facilities. Not much other infrastructure around, but worth a visit

Nothing more to say than great black sand beach. Watching surfers working those waves and relaxing on that fine black sand.
