We spent a couple of hours in Ferndale on our drive from the Avenue of Giants to Eureka, CA. The beautifully maintained Victorian buildings are just wonderful! The shops are unique, fun, well curated and affordable. We encountered friendly, helpful locals everywhere we went and...More

It’s been a few years since we’ve been to Ferndale, but amazingly not much has changed. And that’s a good thing. Too much people, too much, merriment can absolutely change the scenery. Keep it safe, keep it free. Let it stay that way.

It seems that everyone who lives here works hard to keep their properties up. IT is TRULY Victorian through and through. Even the public toilet is Victorian.

Rolled into this beautiful town, had a pint at one of the local pubs and a short stroll to the VI we were warmly welcomed and after a pre dinner drink at the bar, had a wonderful meal. Fine dining but casual conversation. Recommended!

Walkable. Worth an hour if you are passing though. Not much to see but quaint old victorian village with beautiful buildings/well-preserved architecture; setting of a few Hollywood movies (i.e. The Majestic with Jim Carey). Zip through Main Street's local shops and restaurants, visit the hillside...More

The town of Ferndale has become a destination for us when we travel from Colorado. It is very idyllic, extremely clean and simply gorgeous! For the ultimate pampering, we highly recommend staying at the Gingerbread Mansion and having dinner at the Victorian Inn. The Shaw...More

We lived fairly close to this place and loved it. We visited often when coming south after we moved north to Washington State.

Coming down 101, make it a point to swing toward the coast to visit the Victorian village of Ferndale. You aren't on the water's edge, but the beaches are close. So you can spend some time exploring the shops in the village before the beach,...More

Eureka is the metropolitan capital of the North Coast about 20 or 30 minutes away. Fortuna is the large town across the river. There is an airport in Arcata (actually it's north of Arcata) that has regular flights.
