There are also many places for food and coffee, etc., but bring your big wallet. Many of my reviews focus on value. The Eureka Old Town area is becoming a better mouse trap for tourists. Still, it is good to visit if you have some...More

Wide range of sights, shops, and eateries in a relatively compact area. Have explored more fully since moving to the area. Restaurants run the gamut in terms of choices and quality. Central core seems much more safe and secure at night than several other commercial...More

Old town Eureka is an interesting area. There are some very lovely restored buildings, which are great to view. We walked through a good deal of the area and came upon a bunch of street people who, unfortunately, detract a bit from the experience. That...More

We stayed in the old town for a night on the way south to San Francisco. It is a funky little place with nice shops, restaurants and bars. The people here are very helpful and pleasant. Don’t be put off by the scaremongers commenting about...More

This was a fascinating town, top finds where the bookstore and vintage clothes stone. We had a great afternoon exploring the town, sorry we didn't have longer.

The best time to visit Old Town Eureka is the first Saturday evening of every month, during 'Arts Alive'. All the shops are open, and most are offering treats of some sort; wether it be wine, pastries, menu samplings, etc. There is live music everywhere...More

Nice little town. Lots of Victorian style homes, worth the stop along the way to visit. Beautiful land and area.

As Todd C. said, the Bubbles store in Old Town closed - but the one in Arcata is well worth the trip, if you have the time. When I lived in Arcata, I shopped there frequently and love their products. We were back in town a... More

This rural city has public transportation, but it's hard to use. Enterprise has a facility in downtown Eureka; I suggest you contact that company to find out if they will pick up and drop off. You will want a car because... More

1 week: Lassen, Plumas, Ft. Bragg, Redwoods, kids & a dog! (8 Replies)
I'm taking my two kids (12, 17) and our dog on a week tour of Northern California. We'll be in Lassen and Plumas National Parks for two days, then drive to Ft. Bragg to see the glass beach, then putter our way North-ish. Our goal is to see cool geography (waterfalls, hot springs, caves, etc.), experience history, camp under really big/tall trees, and enjoy a somewhat leisurely pace. We will have 3.5 days to spend between leaving Plumas and before we have to drive home (Oregon). I'm really...More

I think you have good destinations, but have too much for a leisurely pace. It's a pretty good drive from Plumas County out to Fort Bragg, and since you only about 3.5 for the coast and redwoods, you won't really have much time to spend in Fort Bragg. The plan is doable, just not leisurely. In Fort Bragg, MacKerricher state park is a nice place to camp. In Humboldt Redwoods state park, Albee Creek is a nice campground - I've never camped there, but it is a nice spot. Around Eureka, I...More

We live in Eureka and would recommend the following eateries in Old Town Eureka. There are others but these are the ones we enjoy. Hurricane Kate's~ Mid block of 2nd between F & G. So cool. Eclectic. Nice atmosphere, unique food. Sweet potatoes (instead of french fries) A fresh spinach pizza ,oysters, Pork Chops and YUMMY desserts and decent cocktails. Good service because they don't have different waiters every month. A good crowd of employees and clientele. Gabriel's~ E & 3rd....More
