About
The exceptional estate wines produced by Orfila Vineyards & Winery are a credit to acclaimed winemaker, Justin Mund. The 70 acre farm just fifteen miles from the Pacific coastline, with a Mediterranean climate, and sandy soils, is ideal for French Rhône varietals. Orfila is located in the heart of San Diego’s greenbelt, in the beautiful San Pasqual Valley.

I was organizing a fun activity to do for my company's offsite trip in San Diego and decided on visiting Orfila since it wasn't too far from the city. Once connected with Alyssa, a Tasting Room Manager, my group of 20 was met with a great accommodation experience. We were set up with a private tasting experience where we tried several different types of wine alongside light snacks. I've personally done several wine tastings before at other locations and typically they will just include a light description of the wines themselves. However, Alyssa personally walked our group through a much broader experience of wine tastings, including the "five S steps", which was a great touch and our group really enjoyed!

Alyssa also put us in touch beforehand with a transportation company to get our large group to and from our hotel at a reasonable price.

The Orfila venue has an air conditioned bar inside to order from and seating available outside from which to enjoy views of the beautiful vineyards. We were also lucky with timing and was able to try a grape or two from a recent batch on our way out from a quick walking tour of the area.

Overall a great experience, great wine, and would definitely come back, if not with my company again, but next time perhaps with my significant other too.

Stopped here on the way home from San Diego Zoo safari park on a Friday afternoon around 4pm. There was already a crowd. A great blues band was playing on the large patio with a great view of the vineyards and hills. We got a couple of glasses of wine, joined another couple at a table and enjoyed the music, the ambiance and warm sunshine.

We enjoyed our tasting experience at Orfila. Our red flight consisted on four generous pours from their San Pasquale valley estate: Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah and Ambassador’s Syrah. All were good but the Syrah’s were very dry and needed rich foods to better appreciate. We elected to purchase a bottle of the hostess’s favorite: 2018 Tempranillo from their Arroyo Grande vineyard… it was Excellent!

Usually I enjoy this vineyard and I know we are all dealing with COVID but they seem to be going out of their way to make it difficult to spend time and therefore money. First we got there on Sunday and were told that we needed a reservation. However we did check their website before we came and it said nothing about reservations and then we found out an hour later the reservations are for 90 minutes and we would need to leave so they could clean the facility for the next reservation which was in 30 minutes. Keep in mind we were 1 of maybe 6 parties present. We finally got them to agree to let us have another reservation (limit 1 per party if you can believe that). So we couldn’t by any wine for 30 minutes until the next reservation they graced us with occurred. This was my wife’s birthday that we we were trying to celebrate. What a disappointing experience with what used to be a very pleasant place to spend time for a few hours. We do not plan to come back to this vineyard again. I would suggest you fix your website and customer service or this vineyard will not make it.

My wife and I joined the "owl club" and come up every three months to pick up our bottles of wine. The highlight of our visit is the nice times out on the patio. It is so relaxing and so beautiful!
My wife is more of a wine fam than I am. She knows what types I will enjoy and usually makes the order. She is a big fan of the different types offered here.
It's always a nice time here and highly recommend it

I have been here over 5 times and it continues to impressive me. I love the view, wine and staff. With Covid 19 restrictions you will want to check the website. Reservations required on the weekend. They have made changes to the operation that made me feel safe. Lots of wines to choice from.

Busy tasting room with festive atmosphere. Initially thought too crowded and noisy but it thinned out and was a lot more enjoyable. Did two tastings and wasn’t overly impressed with most of the wines.

We love going here on a warm, sunny afternoon for wine tasting. The view from the outside tables is breathtaking and the wines (especially the reds) are quite good. The staff is friendly and helpful and there are many tasting choices.

I have one complaint about the ambiance. The tasting room has the flags of the 50 states draped above the room...which is fine. But having to view the confederate flags of Mississippi and Georgia (especially in this political climate) is unsettling. Georgia has even removed that confederate symbol from its state flag but Orfilia has continued to display it. Not sure the solution, but I am sure that I am not the only one who is repelled by the display of the confederate symbol while trying to enjoy a glass of wine.

I visited today with my friends and their 6-month old baby. There were signs indicating that you needed to be 21+ in the tasting room so we purchased a bottle, cheese and crackers, and headed straight for the outdoor patio in order to heed their policy. There was plenty of seating outside with a lovely view. The wine was decent, but no better than any $3.99 bottle at Trader Joe's. After about an hour we were told by staff that we had to leave, because of the very quiet, well-behaved baby. We were redirected to an area on the far side of the parking lot with no shade and no view. It has like the "corner of shame because I have a child" time-out area. Literally two minutes later as we were getting ready to leave another staff member came to say the same thing. I have no idea why there was such sudden urgency after over an hour without it being a problem. Anyway, we are from Northern California wine country and never had an experience like this before. The best businesses are always family-friendly and this one clearly isn't. Add that to the very average wine and I'd definitely vote to pass on this one.

We live fairly close to this winery and we had been driving past it to go wine tasting at other places. Well one day we stopped at Orfila and tried it. The servers were so friendly and helpful and really had a great knowledge about there wines. Where the grapes come from and how the blends are put together. We liked it so much we joined the wine club. Which means four times a year we get to go to the pickup party and get our 3 wines and enjoy free cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies, and live music. We can go wine tasting anytime for free because we are members now. Either 6 tasting or a 1/2 glass of one wine. They have a second tasting room in Julian, it is nice too but not as outdoor and open as the Escondido location.
