My family has been coming to DHS since the 80's and this is the first time I toured this Museum. If you are in the Palm Spring's area especially if you are staying in DHS it's well worth a visit with a nice gift shop, interesting history, and well preserved artifacts. It's not a big place but really cool, perfect for kids. During COVID times you will have to buy tickets in advance and reserve a spot where you can walk through on your own with a phone based tour recording.

This was an interesting historical place that has been well preserved. To see how one man’s vision in desert was realized is amazing. The unique building material was early recycling.
What was disappointing was We made reservations for 2 pm. Some People who made 130pm reservations didn’t start their tour until after two. We started our guided tour after 230 pm.
They had a wonderful app based tour that would have been effective to keep the tour on time. It was a bit unorganized.
It was well worth the trip

This is a unique place that’s quirky in almost every regard. The audio tour (which is done on your phone) is well worth it. I’d recommend booking it online ahead of your visit. When you’re there, you’ll learn a lot about Cabot Yerxa’s life and work as well as the history of the Desert Hot Springs area. If you’re in the area and have a couple of hours to spare, this place is well worth a visit.

I showed up at this museum on a Saturday afternoon and was told I could not purchase the self guided tour because they were sold out, yet there were only 5-6 other people on the property. It seems quite expensive for what is offered.
The Pueblo was built by a hobbyist retired gentleman in the 1940s and 50s. I was shocked that the Pueblo is younger than every house and apartment I have lived in! Its not even 100 years old yet!

What a fun, nutty place! This pioneer's history and the pueblo grounds were really interesting. The visit really gave us a sense of what the early-early desert days were like. So much of the original interiors are preserved, and the commentary coming through on my phone made it really easy to tour. We had the whole place to ourselves, too.

This structure was built in the 1940’s and looks very similar like a pueblo dwelling in e.g. Taos NM. But this one is made of concrete. You can pay to visit the gardens or for the gardens and the house. We wanted to see what’s inside and paid 13 USD p.p. It’s a house with amenities which you can expect from a house 80 years old. Parking on the parking lot next to the entrance. We found it worth the trip and visit.

We were fortunate to have friends who lived in Desert Hot Springs and took us to this museum. Amazing life Cabot lived, be sure to listen to the audio that tells his story. Very glad to have experienced this little gem. Gave us perspective of the hot springs in the area.

Fascinating...Thats what I was thinking while visiting a wonderful hidden gem in the California desert-Cabot's Pueblo Museum! This historical landmark located in beautiful Desert Hot Springs,California is a local attraction and historic place that features over 100 years of history as told through the life of Cabot Yerxa. The Pueblo building houses artifacts from his life including his birth in the Dakota Territory, journeys to Alaska, Cuba, WWI, France, and finally his homestead in Desert Hot Springs.Located near Palm Springs, this artistic piece of southwestern history celebrates the creative spirit. The museum preserves Cabot's legacy of cultural respect, education, art, community, & desert habitat. The visitors store features info, artifacts, and books on the history of Cabot, the Southwest and ceramic and pottery by local artists!
There is plenty great spots to photograph here and enjoy! Lots of 'grammable spots! You can go in the pueblo and immerse yourself in this historic architecture as well!
This is a great spot to make as a destination visit with family, friends, solo and groups or as a nice side trip on the way to Palm Springs or to Joshua Tree National Park or points west!
There's a small fee to enter but well worth it!

What a fascinating look at the genius creation that is the Pueblo. Cabot Yerxa had a fascinating life prior to miraculously finding a hot spring and a cold spring within a quarter mile of each other. His find directly led to Desert Hot Springs becoming a town. Coming from Cuban Cigar Makers he went to war, went to a prestigious art school, and created his home. It's interesting his wife left immediately after his death. Her "suite" shows how hard he tried. You need to load an app for the tour audio. Small fee.

THE highlight of our trip to Palm Springs because it is so unlike what one expects from Palm Springs. A Hopi-style pueblo built from materials found out in the desert by an artist close to a century ago. It is raw, eccentric, artistic, and striking. The audio tour was thorough and fascinating, almost doing justice to the guy who built it. Now owned by the city of Desert Hot Springs, the staff was very helpful and informative. Every corner had some oddity to study, or some piece of lost history to expose. And the narrative of Cabot and his wife's life seems to come straight from a novel. The view from the top of the hill was spectacular. For a contrast from typical Palm Springs. well worth the time.

Are dogs allowed at this site? Of course the dog would be on a leash. Asking for a friend who would like to join us when we go there.
