This dog beach has the memorial garden (dedicated to doggie friends) which really sets this beach for dogs above and beyond all others. This is a community-based effort and every time we come here, we always see volunteers at work: watering, weeding, planting, and doing all those things that make this so spectacular.

In the past, we've laid to rest two furry family members and visiting here reminds us of the enduring affection we all have for these dear departed friends (it was not lost on us). This peaceful spot reverberates with love and memories.

Thoughtful reflection was our constant companion while walking among the tributes and memories left by others.

The volleyball, the music, the lawn chairs, and doggos! We just love it, and so does our English bulldog. This isn't the place to set up a neat site... fully expect random dogs to come trampling along. The beach is typically shallow at great lengths, making it especially kid-friendly and good for dogs that are not great swimmers.

Nice flat beach. Dogs can run around and play on sand and in water and along shore. A bit of the walk from the road, so they seem safe. Nice to watch sunset there. Could use some benches

The beach is quite easy to find. I personally do not have any pets so walking along this beach was tensive from me. First, every owner does not pick up after their pet. This can be quite nerve-wrecking if you are walking on the beach with our without shoes. Second, dogs are everywhere.

"My dog does not bite." Is the most common phrase every pet owner vows. Well, dogs have teeth. Dogs do not vibe with everyone it could be a scent, a look, a color, who knows. This does not mean I want your dog walking near me, sniffing me and then decide to growl or ask for my hand. So instead I walked along the bridge to other side, found the beach access, and sat on the lifeguard tower enjoying the waves under the warm sunlight.

While I am not a pet owner or lover, if I was I would likely come to this beach instead of a dog park. There are hundreds of people with pets. You can observe the range of dog swimming skills and athleticism in the water. Dogs are here to play, get wet, and be competitive. You can tell that the pet owners are warm and welcoming to newcomers. Everyone is watching all pets because there are some areas where the water is deep. I saw two little terriers almost get swept in a wave. Whew! That was close.

Families are relaxing, playing volleyball or of course, playing with their pets. The one cool feature is that there is a Pet Homidium garden for pets that have transitioned. If I waned to see dogs at a beach I would come here. If I wanted to be at the beach and then happen to see dogs-do not come here. If you want a beach experience just go up the ways where "beaching" is actually occurring.
My best tip: There is only a turnaround and no outlet on the actual street of dog beach. It can get real busy with traffic congestion. I would recommend parking on Via d la Valle and walking to the dog beach.

On a weekend stop off to let my dog run, we found one spot far away from the beach. Halfway on the way down I saw a pay station & ask my LOCAL friend who told me about the place & she said "no you don't have to pay for parking", well lo & behold I got a $43 parking ticket for out hour at the beach! Not that great a place, I mean it's nice to let dogs run & play but Dog Beach San Diego is by far better. The ticket ruined it for me, not sure I'll bother with this (SMALL) beach again...

I didn't even see the signs. No other beach I had been to charged for parking. And $43 - I won't be going back to this town. I could have handled a $20 parking ticket - but $43 is just taking advantage of those of us who don't notice the signs. I'm not even from this state. The parking attendant must have seen that when he wrote out my ticket. Be fair to your guests, Del Mar. I'll always associate Del Mar with being ripped off. I won't go back. There are too many other cool California beach towns who treat their guests with more hospitality.

This is a great place for dogs. But make sure to come at low tide, or there won't be much beach:) Also, don't come running through here if you don't like dogs, lol.

The Canine culture abounds in this part of California. Dogs with owners are everywhere. On the beach, at outdoor restaurants, and even in the drug store! So, naturally there is a special beach just for special pets. I just looked, and did not get into the middle of all the activity. But you cannot miss or mistake that you are at Dog Beach!

My dog has so much fun fetching the chuck it in the water. This is his favorite place to play. Most humans there are pretty responsible with their dogs. My dog is a swimmer and this location enables him to swim safely.

My only complaint is that dogs are NOT permitted to be off leash during the summer months from Memorial Day to Labor Day when it's the hottest and they would benefit the most. I think it's ridiculous!! This is DOG BEACH! They should be allowed to enjoy it year round. The argument I've heard is that there are lots of people at the beach during the summer and they want to keep it safe. Well given that there are miles and miles of HUMAN beach areas but only a couple of DOG beach locations, you think the humans who are not comfortable with dogs could go elsewhere?!?! They should allow be play freely off leash year round!

MUST LOVE DOGS. Two random dogs peed on our stuff, but no sweat. It was just a trickle, and dogs will be dogs. We brought our Weimaraner and our 18-month-old daughter here for a Sunday Funday. Had a blast and a half. Be ready to have dogs trample on your towels and kick sand in your face. If you're cool with that, you'll be fine. I loved it. Dogs everywhere.
