Appropriate name, best for families with small kids.
Overall a very good beach, but if the weather is reasonably nice, it will be crowded, regardless of the day of the week. Loaded with families with many small children, but perfect for them; very protected beach, no waves, nice bathrooms, and free parking. You can also rent stand up paddle boards and small sailboats there.

Great for the family, especially with little ones
Many young children are afraid of the water. But this is the perfect place to help the little ones overcome their fears. There are next to no waves and the water is approximately 3 feet deep for a considerable distance before it suddenly drops off. The beach area is not large in the parking lot to fill up quickly. However, if you bide your time, you will soon find a parking spot. All in all, a great spot if you have young children. Many people also do kayaking here.

Great Beach for Families with Young Children
Great place for kids to play in the ocean and parents don't have to worry about waves or currents. When we were there the fire department drove their boat over and sprayed water where all the kids were playing and the kids were loving it. Our kids (ages 6, 4, and 2) usually aren't very confident when it comes to being in water so it was nice to see them be able to play in the ocean without being scared or nervous. Everywhere you looked there were families with kids swimming, playing in the sand, or just having fun. Plus parking is free, although limited and hard to find a spot. I highly recommend this beach for families with young children.

There are no waves at this beach but sometimes it can be a bit polluted. I recommend going to the beach at the end of the road by the ocean institute. Down the stairs....

    Too many tourists!
Don't go there unless you are an outrigger or SUP participant. PERIOD! Too many people with mental issues, alcoholics, homeless and vagrant people hanging out there making it unsafe for the rest of us. The county allows these people to consume the mini pier with their junk and intimidation of people who want to share the pier unbothered by their begging, ranting and filth.

    Small protected beach
Great place for the kids to play in the water. This beach is inside the harbour so well protected. Very small beach but there is usually activities going on during the weekends. Right bed=side the ocean Institute which is a great pace to visit.

    BEWARE OF THE WATER QUALITY
Many times the water is not suitable for swimming and the beach is posted. This is one of the worst places to go swimming in Dana Point because the water is for the interior of the harbor. There is no fresh sea water directly coming into the beach. If you want to enjoy the beach go to Doheney. You may have to pay for parking but the water quality is safe.

    Baby beach fun
The water was clear, I went snorkeling and saw amazing fish. Stay in the horseshoe and don’t go beyond the rocks, the current is strong.
