This is the place for surfing if your group has a range of experience especially beginning and intermediate. The north side of the beach is rocky, but this is where the best beginner waves are. Bring booties to walk out. Sand is good but the north area is not the best beach for swimming. If you move towards the snack... More

Great place to stroll, try surf lessons, boogie board, or sit and relax. There's a long sidewalk that runs along the beach, so you can walk or bike or scoot for a long distance.

Crazy waves! Parking price was very reasonable $2.00 per hour, clean beach, not over crowded. My favorite beach so far is Santa Monica, were been to three so far.

Decided to go to this beach as it seemed to have all the amenities that my family required. The reality is a little bit different from what is portrayed in the internet. Parking is available and for the day costs $15. A steal. The best beach is at the southern end and is so close to the parking lot you... More

It was really convenient to out hotel right across the street. Not a single person was on it at 6am. I'm from Arkansas so 8am our time. The rocks were nice on the beach. Would be nice if someone would clean up the trash left by inconsiderate people.

Enjoyed the day. Not too crowded. Lifeguards nicely told me I was surfing in the wrong spot. Easy place to learn.

The beach was walking distance from our hotel. It was very clean but be warned its rocky so you'll be better off with socks or water shoes. The waves were perfect for my girls to enjoy boogie board and first time surfing lessons; not too scary not too dull.

Some recent reviews of this state beach, poetically named after the oil/robber baron Edward L. Doheny, have included the phrases "a bit rocky," "water was quite dirty," "smelled bad," "quality of the water is always a risk" and "pretty nice besides where the sewage comes up," After a recent visit, I can attest to all of the above and tack... Dirtiest beach we've ever been to in California. What a disgrace. Used to county beaches that are groomed and water that is cleaner than this. The only thing nice about this place is the parking lot. Crowd looks like a far side convention and beach is just overly crowded and nasty.
