I recently attended a travel writer's workshop hosted by Book Passage and had the pleasure of browsing this store while waiting for the class to get started. While I love to buy books online, I also love to browse in a bookstore and discover new books. This place also has a great café with a wide range of food and beverage options. I really wish I lived closer so I could attend their author events. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend making a trip to this book store--you won't regret it.

Have been more than a few times...used to be a cadre of employees who loved and knew books. As a rule - delightful and so smart...they all left. Sad.
I cringe when I hear the owner belittle staff...and avoid her.
Has been in Marin forever...

This book store is located in a shopping center where it is very easy to park. It has a new section, with all kinds of magasines from around the world, a very good selection of books and they are always willing to order your special request. They have interesting authors speak weekly. They also have a café, another annex with used books. It is a very well designed space with excellent staff. I know these days of amazon it is tempting to order books on line but I think it is important to support your independent bookstore or they will just go away. I give a big thumbs up for a place to browse, attend lectures, have food and buy gifts.

Author readings seldom issue editions and autographed originals! All this and more at Book Passage, a store where you can spend 15 minutes or 5 hours. You can even get a coffee and a croissant. So nice.

I think everyone in Marin totally appreciates The Book Passage. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about current and past books, the used book section/hospice book area in the back shop is fabulous and the vibe in the store is so comfortable. I recommend checking it out.

Book Passage for Books is like being allowed into some special inner sanctum - an exclusive secret place known to the cognoscenti. On any given day the authors are here ...sharing. Of course, there are the books - but - more importantly, there is a professional staff of librarians and writers. Knowledge is really what you get here ... and friendship. This is a destination bookstore. It is located in Marin County, one of the most literate counties in America. Marin is also one of the wealthiest places on the earth - so - Book Passage can survive here - when many other independent book sellers have had to close their doors, Book Passage survives even with a Barnes and Noble a few blocks away. Come here and just sit. You don't even have to buy anything - but if you like books and writers and cooks and authors and publishers and librarians and word and pictures and travel and imagination and color and shape and form and cities and countries and planets and everything - make your way here - get on the mailing list and become one of us.

My family and I were staying at the hotel right next to the book store (Marin Suites) and made 2 trips there in 3 days. It is wonderful! We love visiting independent book stores and this is one of the best we have visited (on par with Strand Books in NY). They have an incredible selection of books and the people that work there are friendly and knowledgable. Each time we went we spent about an hour looking at books and narrowing down our selections (my kids are 7 and 9). We also brought our extended family there and everyone found something wonderful to buy. There is also a used book room benefitting charity. If I am ever nearby again, I will stop in. Lovely!
