- Julia Y18 contributionsWorth It!This was on my to-do list because it was affordable and smart. We parked in Coronado and took the ferry to the Broadway Pier. We walked all the way down to the Children's Museum and Gaslamp to eat. We got back on by the Convention center and headed back to Coronado. Yes we walked a lot, but had no stress finding and paying for parking everywhere we went. The views were spectacular and the boat was not crowded at all.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2024
- Eva M288 contributionsFun ferry ⛴️ ride to the Coronado Island!Great way to get from downtown San Diego across to the Coronado Island. $8.00 per person each way is well worth it! We did the short ferry (15min) one way to the Coronado Island (pick up by the Hilton, by The Rady Shell concert venue at Jacobs Parkshell), and did the Long Way back (30mim) to the main land which dropped us off right by the USS Midway Museum. The ferry ⛴️ runs every 30 min, they are very punctual. Lots of seating for guests up on the top deck or below if you prefer. Getting tickets is easy, either right at the Port in a self-serve kiosk machine, or by scanning a QR code and ordering online. Pricing is the same for both online or at the Port. The price is also the same for the short ferry 15min and the long ferry 30min. It's all the same ticket. I would definitely recommend it, it's a nice quick way to see San Diego harbor from the water. Beautiful skyline! And definitely worth crossing over and wondering around at the Coronado Island!!!Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 22, 2024
- roncee12Fairburn, Georgia210 contributionsNight PhotosIt was a great location for night cityscape of San Diego. Parking is free for first 2 hours. I took some great pictures and met another great photographer from San Francisco taking night photos. The other people there were out fishing and real nice. The pier have restrooms, restaurants, and shops. The shops closed around 10pm.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 14, 2024
- 50statestravelerAlta Loma, California1,752 contributionsGreat way to get to Coronado IslandWe were staying in the Gaslamp District without a car and decided to take the ferry to Coronado for dinner. It was easy to find the schedule online and plan our trip and reservations. We took the 5:55 pm ferry from the convention center. It was a little tricky getting to and finding the loading dock but once we did it was a great experience. We pre-purchased our tickets online (no refunds) at $9/person each way. If you have any mobility issues like I do (bad knee) I suggest going on the Hilton side of the Convention Center, rather than taking the massive amount of stairs required both up snd down the convention center walkway. There is an elevator but you have to contact security to run it for you which we did not do. We weren't sure we were in the right area to board the ferry initially because we had difficulty locating any signs or people to ask. There is a smaller sign over the gate/fence but the view of it was blocked by a yacht coming from our direction. Just head towards Joe's Crab Shack, it's right next door. Unfortunately there are no benches or shade covering available in the area so don't arrive too early if it's a warm day. The ferry arrived and departed right on schedule. The crew were friendly and it was a pleasant trip with great views. There is indoor and outdoor seating available, plenty of space for everyone. It's a large ferry. The return trip was more crowded and you need to make sure you're getting on the correct ferry as one also goes to another area of town. The line was longer but there are a few benches and a covered area on to Coronado Island side if you need to sit down.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 2, 2024

The Ferry is so easy!. Bikes are free on the Ferry or you can rent one near the landing in Coronado. Biking around the island is popular. The ferry cost is $7 each way and you don't need to decide in advance if you want round trip. The ferry ride is only 15 minutes so just sit in the sun and enjoy the surrounds. Note: the Ferry landing is across the island from the Hotel Del Coronado. It about 2 miles to the Hotel and Beach if you want to see those too. You can walk along Orange Ave where there are plenty of places to eat and rest. We decided to Uber back rather than walk back to the Ferry landing.

This was something new that we had never done before in the numerous years we have been visiting San Diego. The boat ride was short, about 30 mins, and walking around the island was fun.
Took the local bus to the Hotel Del Coronado and walked through the grounds and hotel. This is where they filmed Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Although I heard that they only filmed outside the hotel. Inside scenes were filmed at the studio. They had just recently refinished all of the wood work in the lobby when we visited in October 2022.
There are some quante little outdoor eating spots that have views of the bay. Not many people around in mid October. A few of the establishments were close however.

Very easy to cross the bay. Either to the convention center or the Boardwalk Pier. $10 round trip or $5 one way. The Flagship team was so friendly and nice. If they have a smaller boat running and you have a bike be ready to get upfront as they will only take 6 at a time. Much easier than driving.

Any boardwalk area has its share of cheap souvenir and tee-shirt shops. Not atypical, they are all over here but there are some beautiful gems waiting to surprise.
Very nice restaurants such as Peoche's and Il Fornaio, a blond sand beach, and a very long walking and biking path along the shore make The Coronado Ferry Landing a very enjoyable day outing.
Get there via the free shuttle and take the $5 ferry to San Diego rather than driving across the bridge and fighting for parking.
Any visit to Coronado should include a visit to the ferry landing.

Not far away is Ferry Center where we parked our bikes shopped a little and got a bite to eat. Walking paths and the public beach make this a popular little spot. If not limited on time, the ferry is an eventful way to access Coronado Island.
Rejuvenated, we rode back and said good-bye to beautiful Coronado Island and hello to a little Italian flair in San Diego.

After dinner on Coronado, catch the last ferry back to the Convention Center at 10:30 and enjoy the beautiful San Diego skyline at night before heading to the Gaslamp District for a fun night out. Very romantic when you have the boat to yourself. The stairs are open to go up and over the Convention Center and straight into the Gaslamp, but it is a lot of steps.

Great, cheap, nice ride to Coronado from the embarcadero or vice versa. No bathroom on board and nothing to buy, but it is only a 15 minute ride. Easy going--you won't get seasick. You can buy tix from window or machine.

We took our aunt and uncle and other relatives here so they can take the Ferry to cross over to Harbor. It is so much fun not to have to worry about parking on the other side. Then we ate at the Fish Market and took pictures. It is not only convenient to take the Ferry but a good experience to see the San Diego Skyline.

Is there any parking spot near the ferry? How much is the fee? Thanks
Written July 29, 2018
Hi Maria.
Are you planning to take the ferry FROM Coronado or TO Coronado? If taking it from Coronado, you should have no problem parking in the large parking lot that serves the shopping plaza. It is free. The ferry leaves from the edge of the shopping center.
If, however, your departure point is San Diego, then that ia a bit more challenging. Any parking in San Diego is difficult to find and pricey.
The closest parking is the Convention Center and the cost is between $15 and $35 for the day. If you don't mind a little walk, try parking at Seaport Village shopping center. The costs are as follows:
Monday - Thursday: Validated self-parking: $5 for the first 3 hours or part thereof; $3 every 30 minutes thereafter or part thereof. Validation with a minimum $10 purchase. Non-validated self parking: $8 per hour or part thereof.
Looks like the Convention Center is the closest and probably the best option. There are some lots behind Petco Park but the neighborhood borders a transitional section (large segment of homeless population).
Maybe you'll be fortunate enough to say on the Coronado side (I love it there). In case you did not know (as I did not know), the Coronado Bridge is free as the bond measure to pay for it has long since been paid off. The views are pretty amazing along the drive over the bridge.

How far is the walk from convention center to Petco Park? I will be taking the Coronado ferry
Written July 28, 2018
It’s about 1/2 a mile walk. Easy day. I would recommend you exit the ferry and head towards the Hilton, then use the foot bridge over the road and rail road tracks. It’s a nice view and not that much more of a distance.

Hi-
We will be staying at the Hotel Del Coronado for a convention. How far of a walk to the ferry?
Thanks!
Written July 23, 2017
Some times during the year there is a free shuttle. Otherwise it is about a half hour or so to walk.

I will be staying in Coronado and will take the ferry over to San Diego. How far is the walk from the ferry landing to the Midway Aircraft Carrier?
Written April 13, 2017
If you wear comfy shoes, it's great to walk to lots of other downtown attractions—like the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, the Maritime Museum, etc. Enjoy!

How far of a walk is it from Coronado ferry from the convention center to the Coronado beach once you get off the ferry
Written August 13, 2016
The ferry to Coronado is a matter of blocks from the San Diego convention center. Not far. From the ferry landing in Coronado to the Coronado beach is probably at least 20 minutes. We walked part way - 4-6 blocks - and caught an Uber or Lyft ride from there. We were on a "deadline" to see the sunset. Hope that helps.

Hi, there...we are planning to spend about 5 nights in Coronado to attend a convention at the Wyndahm across the bay...the ferry from Coronado lands at Broadway pier...does anyone know how far the walk is from Broadway to the Wyndahm? We'll have a car for longer day trips but we thought the ferry would be fun for some afternoon meetings, etc...thanks to all
Written June 22, 2015
Depends on how fast you walk. The distance is about 2 blocks.
