About
Cache Creek Vineyards is a small, family-owned, sustainably farmed vineyard nestled in the eastern foothills of scenic Lake County. In 1997, founder, Bill "Poppo" Van Pelt, started cultivation of the land and embarked upon his dream of creating not only a beautiful vineyard in which world-class grapes would be grown, but also a safe refuge for the Tule Elk which roam freely along Cache Creek.

This is a cool place to see, the wine is great and the people here take time to explain the processes in its production. They do have wine cheese etc., also they have some of the local flair shopping (hand made soaps ,jelly and more). come to see this, its a perfect stop on your staycation!

This is the way wine tasting used to be. Great friendly host that knows the wines, nice tasting room, and very good to excellent wines. $5 to taste and it is applied to purchase. We purchased 4 bottles and will go back for more. Good place to stop on Hwy 20 between the lake and I5.

A relatively new winery, but the grounds are really well done. An elk herd regularly is visiting and can be see by all. The wine tasting room is very nice. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful.

If you are coming from the Sacramento Valley headed for Clear Lake, Mendocino or the coast, you cannot miss a stop here, especially if you love great wines and great service. This was our second time here and the quality wines were really interesting and flavorful. Just as importantly the staff treat you like you are the most important person in the world. Katlyn and Shirl (ey) made our day. They served us the great wines with enthusiasm, friendliness and knowledge while also making us an outstanding Crackers-cheese-meat-nuts-olives plate for 8 bucks that was perfect for enhancing the tastings and providing a lite lunch for along the journey. The new building, which will eventually house the wine making as well as the tasting is beautiful, and on a long trip the bathrooms alone are worth seeing. Don't miss this place, you won't be sorry. Maybe the local herd of Elk will be in the adjacent meadow.

This new winery is a must stop and see near Clear Lake, Ca. We often travel from our home in the Sacramento Area to Fort Bragg, Ca on the coast along State Hwy 20. The stretch between Williams and Clear Lake in the past offered no place to take a break. Now a beautiful new winery has opened near Clear Lake Oaks and it is very special. The first thing we observed was the elegant exterior architecture, very inviting. Inside we were greeted by two happy and helpful staff members who not only served us the delicious wine but also kept things light and fun. While it is a new tasting room, the wines really were from good to outstanding. Not a single "clunker" in anything we tasted. The wines are low in tannin and have complexity, and you really get the essence of the fruit. We also had a cheese and meat plate which was delicious, generous portion and accented the wines. While we were there the owner came in and gave us a personal tour, what a treat. The interior decor is very special with elegant woods, metals and tile which make you feel warm and actually a bit in awe. Even if wine isn't your thing, the stylish interiors and nice bathrooms and friendly people are worth the stop.

Shared some wine with daughter and son in law. Nice setting, very peaceful and relaxing sitting outside with the view.

Felt out of sorts with several different people waiting on us each in their own manner and no one ever making clear how the wine tasting selections would be offered. Really confusing and on unorganized, did not feel comfortable.
All other vineyards in this area are super friendly informative and helpful.

As longtime wine lovers and visitors to the Napa and Sonoma counties, we made our first winery visit in Lake County at Cache Creek, and we were extremely happy with the experience. Our host took his time with us, and gave a good exposition of the wines aimed at our knowledge level, and kept us at ease. The tasting room is well-done and perfectly suited to the winery. I would have loved to have been there at a time when we could have enjoyed some of the live music that the winery hosts...but next time!
