Clear Lake is believed to be the oldest lake in North America. The banks provide a nice hangout/fishing spot for the small town of Clearlake (yes, very creative name too). Notably the highest peak is Mt Konocti, a dormant dome volcano sitting in the Clear Lake Volcanic Field where you can spot other geological features like cinder domes and maars.... More

Love this little winery in the middle of nowhere! Good selection of reds, white and a Cabernet Rose' that was snaxing! The owners are good stewards of their land and adhere to sustainable growing practices. Service was amazing. Must visit.

We are staying a second night on the lake. First night was in Lakeport and we are on the other side tonight in Clear Lake. There are tons of cute motels and cottages around the lake. All kind of restaurants and something for everyone!

I've lived some of the best years of my life in Clearlake, Lucerne to be specific. Back then the lake really was clear. Fishing was always fantastic people were great and we always looked forward to tourist season. The natural hot springs were wonderful and you could interact with nature. Recently I went there and was surprised at the changes... More

Yes the algae is disappointing. We chose not to swim from the dock of our rental home, but there are enough redeeming qualities to return again next summer. We enjoyed the casinos and wineries in the area on the days we were not on the lake. Yes on not in the lake, jet skiing was a legendary adventure for us.... More

We took Hwy 20 from Williams just so we could see the lake on this scenic route to get us to 101. When we first saw the lake we were disappointed that we couldn't stop because there was no parking anywhere. Seemed like all the land near the lake was occupied by private properties. We finally found the Alpine park... More

Considering a 2nd home purchase, we visited this lake a few weeks ago and spent 1 fabulous day swimming in the middle of this magnificent looking, huge lake! My family enjoyed the warmish water and skied all day long. Fun!!! We were ready to take the plunge on purchasing our summer home and then came across the algae stench stories.... More

It looked great on the map. It really did. Nice big lake, more or less on the way to where we were going, ought to be some nice RV parks. Ooops. Some highlights: more meth heads than I have ever seen in one place; roads that would suit a third world country; abandoned homes everywhere; directional signs for businesses that... More

So scary. The person who reviewed it saying scary movie town and the sherif is in on it was exactly right. No shore to play. No beach. No designated swimming areas. The people in the town looked scary. Yard sales all over the place. No grocery store.
