Great place to spend an afternoon in Clarksburg - near Sacramento. This venue has a dozen or more small wine producers operating from small rental areas within the huge old Sugar Mill. While I did not visit them all, I can attest that if you look, you will find almost any kind of wine you would like. We stopped at Due Vigny, a small family winery that specializes in Italian varietals like Nebbiolo and several others. We did their chocolate and wine paring which consists of 5 wines and 5 types of chocolate. I think the charge was $35 with the normal offer of applying a portion of that fee towards the purchase of their wines. The Blue cheese chocolate was fabulous and all the wines were teriffic. The outdoor seating area was drenched in afternoon sun and the breezes were the perfect pairing with the wines. You will love the Old Sugar Mill.

The Old Sugar Mill provides quality wine tasting driving distance from Sacramento. With multiple great quality wines in one stop, the Old Sugar Mill is a unique and quality wine destination. Clarksburg is a small, quaint, friendly country town just South of Sacramento.
The wine quality is very close to Napa's higher quality wines. The Herringer label and the Clarksburg Wine Company are must stops.

The drive out to the Sugar Mill is an experience in itself, winding along the Sacramento River. Parking is free, and the people are friendly. On occassion, there are bands and events on the weekends. It is also a great place for receptions and private parties.

On my first visit to Old Sugar Mill, we hit a few wineries/tasting rooms before we hit Bump City. Should have gone there first. We had the pleasure of being served by Judy who was so very sweet! We even got to meet her adorable grandson. She gave us plenty to taste along with excellent conversation. Could have hung with her for hours. Ended up buying 2 bottles after lots to taste. We sat out in the gorgeous Cali weather loving life. The ride to Ols Sugar Mill is just lovely. Plan to spend at least several hours. Much to absorb .Sunday was great with music and allowed picnic baskets.

I just had my wedding at the Old Sugar Mill in August and just wanted to state some of the issues we had experienced. Four days before the wedding day my wife and I found out that the Old Sugar Mill had double booked another reception on the same day. When we questioned why we weren't informed sooner, we were told that we had already been aware of these changes. It seems as though the Old Sugar Mill staff must have gotten us confused with another couple because we were NEVER informed about the double-booking by their staff (it was only by luck we found out from one of our vendors).

While we tried to make the most of the situation, there were some issues that just couldn't be overlooked. There were about a handful of people (that me or my guests noticed) from the other reception that had entered the Galleria (where our ceremony and reception had taken place) and were wandering around, then used the indoor restroom that was reserved solely for our guests. However, that wasn't as big of a concern as our photographs. While we understood we could not use the Boiler room due to decorations being set-up (which we still were not very pleased with, since the Boiler room-- and pictures inside the room, was one of the main reasons we decided to go with the Old Sugar Mill after our initial tour). The pictures we were able to take on other Old Sugar Mill grounds were limited and interrupted. The most upsetting instance was during our family pictures, when guests from the other reception kept walking in front of our photographer and were even getting angry by our presence. One of the other wedding's guests even got irate with our photographer when she denied entry into to room my wife was getting dressed in.

All in all, I would not recommend the Old Sugar Mill to anyone looking for a wedding venue. It seems like it will be the norm for these double bookings to occur, and the grounds just aren't large enough or organized well for two wedding events.

This place had more of a trade show atmosphere. A bit sterile really. The quantity they provided in flight tasting sample was very limited. Not the best wine fest that I have been to

Overpriced tastings and no wines that met by liking (at least in the tasting rooms I visited). It had so much potential but I was disappointed. It is a nice setting, there was a food truck there but with so many people and wineries - perhaps there should be better food options? Many of the wines used Lodi grapes, we visited Lodi the next day and had a much better time there (normal prices and better wine).

Hi! We pride ourselves on being Sacramento's own backyard wine region--just fifteen minutes from downtown. I hope you'll give us another try in the future. We have 15 different wineries on site, that source their grapes from all over California, including Clarksburg, Sonoma, the Sierra Foothills, Napa, Contra Costa County, and Lodi among others. We endeavor to have three food trucks every Saturday and two on Sundays. Please let us know if and when you'll be in the area again, and we would love to tour you around the facility. Cheers!

Wine clubs Are NOT for children & Non-Service dogs - Leave them home!!!!

We love going to the Old Sugarmill and are really tired of people bringing their out-of-control children and non-service dogs. These are Adult Events🍷. We don't want to put up with your screaming kids and dogs that jump up on you.... we've raised our children & unfortunately our dog passed 10 years ago from cancer-but she stayed home where she was happy🙃. I would love it if others would do the same. DK

Your worst day wine tasting in Lodi, CA will be a better experience than any you might have at the Old Sugar Mill. Out for a Sunday drive, we decided to try for a ‘second chance’ the Old Sugar Mill for a couple bottles of nice wine. Walked into the mini mall, no greeting, no directions, no clues about any pricing, tastings, or where to sit and enjoy some wine. On our day off from work, I did not expect to have to “work” for information about costs for tasting, costs for wine, and wine selection. The ‘second chance’ poor experience solidified the ‘never will return’ to Old Sugar Mill.

This is not the original place for this sugar mill. It was moved here. Now it is home to several wineries and tasting rooms. They are not all open on weekdays but the first one on the left was. It's called Rendez-vous Winery and they have outdoor seating both in the front and a semi-private patio on the side. The also are starting to prepare food as well. Two ladies that work there really stand out Lindsay and Jenn. They both know wine and Lindsay is great at parring wines and food.

...I might not drive to Clarksburg once a month, but I live in Sacramento, so it's a short hop over the bridge at Freeport, and the quality has zoomed over the last three years with Due Vigne joining Todd Taylor and the keeps-getting-better-Heringer offerings.
