Worth a visit if you enjoy local and regional history. The Bidwell Mansion was the home of John Bidwell and his wife Annie. John was a pioneer into the region and founded Chico. He became wealthy as a farmer as well as a politician and statesman. The home itself has been beautifully kept up a California State Historic Park. The... More

John Bidwell is the founder of the city of Chico and the mansion is well preserved and a great place to learn the history of the community as well as some information about Bidwell and his wife, Annie. Guided tours step off every hour on the weekends between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Parking is free, but... More

I've been to Chico probably 15x in my lifetime and knew of John Bidwell for the land he gave for Bidwell Park but I had no clue who the man was or his amazing accomplishments. Just reading the brochure online gave me a great look into Bidwell's personal & business life but the tour guide really did a great job... More

If you are interested in the history of Chico, this is a great place to start. The Visitors Center has an informative exhibit about John Bidwell, the founder of Chico, and how he and his wife Annie shaped the town. There is also a 25 minute film available for viewing. You can then join a 1-hour guided tour of the... More

When decorating the Bidwell Mansion, they used old photos and recreated the rooms as closely as possible. When we were there, the top floor was lacking some of the style of the first floor. It is well worth the stop if you are interested in décor, and antique furniture.

Take a tour from friendly guides through this gorgeous mansion belonging to our City's founders. Christmas time is the ideal time to visit as they decorate and there are typically barbershop singers caroling and it is fun for the entire family.

I had heard of General Bidwell. But was not aware of he and his wife's influence on California history.

Bidwell Mansion is in the center of Chico. It was built by the founding father of the community - General Bidwell in the late 1800's.
