We didn’t schedule a tour ahead of time and tried to find something in town to do with no luck on rental cars or scooters. We stumbled across the e-bike rental place that said they had an island tour contact. With a few minutes the tour company called us and we were in luck. Jocelyn, our guide showed up, she had been off work that day and was shopping but agreed to the tour when her boss called. We lucked out! She gave us a great tour, showing us all around the island and giving us insight into the local culture and customs. Best thing we did on Huahine!

This was the third part of our shore excursion. Our driver spoke good English and at the start showed us a map of where would be traveling to. We lucked out in his brand new truck. Saw many cool sites. BOTTOM LINE: We loved this approximately 1hr ride. We got to see an ancient burial ground of sacrificed royalty to the gods. We then went on to see the freshwater blue-eyed eels. OH MY GOSH - SCARY! These were amazing to see. Some are around 15 years old and about 6' long. Our guide fed them and some more came out of hiding, local kids were petting them in the stream! An over look on the opposite side of the island was amazing and great for picture taking. MY RATING: 8/10 We also stopped at a village sea rock fish trap that they still use here daily after 400 years to catch fish. It is sort of a maze for capturing fish. Pretty cool to see.

Got lucky from a random pick of operators! Our guide Jocelyn was outstanding. Her knowledge was fantastic and she was able to explain everything to us non French speaking travellers. The tour had many highlights including the traditional fish traps and the view from the Belvedere.

We took this tour as one of the excursions for our Windstar Cruise. The driver was knowledgeable and very nice. We were able to see various coconut products, a vanilla plantation, blue eyed eels, a pearl farm (probably the nicest one we saw while there) and also the “ancient” ruins. There were three 4x4’s but each of the drivers also had something to say which was nice and they all provided there own commentary. The island itself is gorgeous and lush and there are many views as well.

Great views of the island. Stopped at all the imoportant places - even a small store where free wifi was available! You sit sidewaays in the back of a 4x4, which is all part of the fun. Be careful when feeding the sacred blue eels that yu don't get bitten!¬
