It was across the street from where we were staying so we decided to walk through it and check it out. Then first thing we saw was the paths that were well maintained and fairly wide. There were guys in a cart riding around making sure any trash was picked up and cleaning the areas where information signs were located. We then walked the paths and saw numerous birds in and around the marsh area. It was interesting watching these birds as they fed themselves. We then came to a bridge where we observed a lot of rays swimming in the water. These rays were like small saucer in size to a good serving plate size swimming up and down canal. We also observed leopard and angel sharks swimming in this same area. And we learned these sharks are juvenile sharks which stay in the marsh until they are big enough to go into the ocean. It seems the female leopard and angel sharks comes into the marsh to have her young. It was very interesting watching the rays and sharks swimming around. Also, other fish was consistently jumping and ducks swimming.

I went with a group on a Sunday morning bird walk, with a birder leading us. This is a great place to get out and be with Nature. It is part of the University of California Reserve system. it is normally closed on weekends, but this was a special event and we had a UC rep with us. Normal hours are 8am to 5pm M-F. Trails are hard packed, and there are no bathroom facilities. People with physical limitations should call ahead (805) 684-5405 to see if it's appropriate.

This is a small reserve which can be a bit muddy. Great for a short walk to see birds. We visited on a lovely day in December and saw many different birds including a snow goose and the yellow capped heron. There was plenty of water as the tide was in so the ducks and scooters were plentiful, as were herons and egrets.

there are not many places like this in southern California. Easy access, lots of wandering trails, close to town and the local shuttle stop, and nice posted signs of what to look for. It's fun for a casual stroll or a dedicated birdwatcher. I always enjoy my visits there. I visit often.

This area is nice and quiet for a walk. It’s nothing to write home about and to take time out of your day to go and see, but it’s close to my VRBO in Carpenteria, California, thus is worth very short walk.
I’m more excited about the community restoring and rebuilding the estuary than bragging about its looks. This is good to observe the birds or read the signs to learn.

This was one of the reasons we chose to spend a few days in Carpinteria. Although there are more than 200 bird species here we weren't lucky or adept enough to find too many.

Pros: Great to see how this area was restored. Peaceful and interesting educational signage. Saw a gorgeous gray heron and some lovely smaller birds.
Cons: Narrow paths do not allow for social distancing, and very few people were wearing masks or making any attempt to distance. Drug addicts also come here; be aware of your surroundings at all times.

This time of year this place did not resemble the photos on TA. Place was not visually pleasant and no wildlife or fowl in sight. Short and sweet visit!

This is a salt marsh nature area. It is an easy level walk around the salt water that flows inland. It is a home to birds and many native plants.

How long is the Salt Marsh Nature Park boardwalk?
Written October 20, 2017
THere is a short boardwalk that goes to restrooms and beach, there are decomposed granite trails that are pretty easy to use as well. There is a longer boardwalk btween Linden and Palm by yhe State Park, and State Park has lots of paved walkways and benches to enjoy ocean viewing.
