It's a bit of a drive from Carmel, but worth the trip. Small winery's tasting room (with many other tasting rooms nearby). Only one person on duty and she got diverted by a large group that came in after us, so we didn't get the attention we might have otherwise. Still, we tasted two flights of their wines which we enjoyed so much we bought some to take home.

The tasting room has a long table for fun and wine conversation. The walls have full size wine barrels and large wall pictures of their vineyards. It was like being there in the serenity of the vineyards. The tastes were 3 white and 3 red. There was a cheese platter with cheese chosen for pairing with each wine. Nathan was knowledgeable and you could tell he enjoyed the wines and sharing them. It was a great experience.

Joullian has one of the nicest small tasting rooms I have ever seen in California or Europe. The wines reflect the same quality as they are very well made. If you're looking for "fruit bombs" or highly alcoholic reds - this is not your place. These are wines to enjoy with food and to possibly age if one has the patience. A case in point are the Chardonnays: they are beautiful with food without the oak and the tutti-frutti characteristics that have long been been associated with California. The style is more austere without being severe. The reds are have an elegant balance of nose, fruit and finish. My current favorites are: the Sias Zinfandel; the Reserve Cabernet; the Highland Chardonnay and the bargain Retro Rouge.

The Joulliaan tasting room, which is part way into Carmel Valley, has large pictures of the vineyards and the hills behind them, further out in the Valley than the tasting room. I chose the reserve tasting, but substituted a Semillon for the Chardonnay, since I don’t often like Chardonnay. I was pleasantly surprised by the Pinot Noir, not normally on my preferred red wine list, but, to my taste, it had depth and character. And the Cabernet Sauvignon was excellent. The staff member was friendly and helpful; since I was the only customer at first, we had an extended discussion of the wines I was tasting. I discovered that they have a small event room and work with several local caterers for events. What fun to have a wine tasting party. A large group and two members of the Joullian wine club arrived while I was there, but the tasting room did not feel crowded and the staff member kept us all straight and answered everyone’s questions in detail as we all tasted and visited. The group consisted of wives whose husbands were at a business conference while they explored Carmel – we chatted about where they’d been and places I recommended. A fun way to spend part of an afternoon.

Carmel Valley Village is a hidden gem with lots of wine tasting places. This is one of them, nice building with an airy bright room. The wines were tasty, liked their Cab. We were there on a weekday in winter around lunch time, and we were the 2nd group of the day - slow winter weekday crowd! Had a great conversation with the person there, enjoyed the wine and the vibe. We bought wines and had our tasting fee waived. Cool!

My wife and I visited the Carmel area in mid-May 2008 and decided to drive to Carmel Valley for some wine tasting. We especially enjoyed the wines and service at the tasting room of Joullian Vineyards, which is located just off the main road. (Note -- this is not the Chateau Julien, which is about six miles closer to Carmel itself).
The service was friendly and attentive while we were there, but it really shined after we returned home to Tennessee. The staff of Joullian shipped us a free bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon after an error occurred in the shipment we had ordered while in the tasting room. The error was minor, and I would have been happy with a small price adjustment. But without my asking, the winery said they would compensate with the free bottle -- and they delivered. What more could you ask?

Located deep in Carmel Valley, this is a beautiful venue for a wedding or other special event. There is a grassy area that offers a spectacular view, a house that has bathrooms, kitchen, changing rooms , etc.

One of many tasting rooms in Carmel Valley town, Joullian had one of the more reasonably priced flights. Only one other group there, so lots of attention. Unfortunately they had no outdoor space for the tasting.

Had the pleasure of visiting Joullian tasting room and the vineyard. The wine was incredible, they truly have a wine to satisfy any palate. The tasting room staff were very helpful and informative and the building was beautiful.
They offer private tours of the winery and the vineyard, its an amazing experience and incredibly beautiful, I highly recommend it. If you're in Carmel Valley, don't miss out, visit Joullian!

On the last leg of our wine tour up the California coast we stopped in Carmel Valley. We stopped into Joullion for wine tasting on the recommendation from my one of my coworkers. The front part of the tasting room was on the smaller side (still very accommodating), with outdoor seating ,as well as a larger room for larger parties visiting the tasting room. It was very beautiful and clean and we were greeted immediately by the bubbly staff with a friendly hello. We were treated wonderfully and the staff was very knowledgeable about all aspect of the wine, the vineyard, and its history.
Now let's talk about wine! We did the Reserve Flight for $15 tasting fee per person (fee waived with purchase) which contained:
2013 Sais Cuvee Estate Zinfandel (79% Zinfandel)
2013 Estate Jonquille (48& Merlot/45% Zinfandel)
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (76% Cabernet Sauvignon)
2014 Reserve Estate Merlot (90% Merlot)
2013 Reserve Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (87% Cabernet Sauvignon) (FAVORITE)
2013 Reserve Estate Syrah (94.5% Syrah)
They were well balanced wines and were reasonable priced per bottle (no more than $50 per bottle).
We went to 3 other tasting rooms in the Carmel Valley but Joullion is by far is our number one stop on the Carmel Valley wine tastings. It is a must stop if you are traveling through this little village. We will be back!
