When our church in Vacaville was remodeled, the design borrowed some architectural details from the Carmel Mission so I've wanted to visit here for a long time. Lots of California history here and it just happened that we visited the day before Saint Serra's feast day and the local Bishop was giving mass! Even if you're not Catholic, you won't... More

The Mission and church are interesting to walk thru. The courtyard is only available on tour. The courtyard is beautiful and worth seeing.

I visited this mission while visiting Carmel. I am Catholic but I think people of most denominations would love this mission. Beautiful surrounds. Many historical remnants, antiques and graves. Rich history at the mission.

It gets crowded but was worth the visit. We arrived about half an hour before they closed the church for an event. It might be best to go first thing in the morning if at all possible.

Yes, the whole California Missions history has a sordid side, but this is one of the more well-kept missions, and the beautiful grounds are totally worth a visit.

Clear blue sky, early Sunday evening mass just started, the church doors open, walked around the unbelievable gardens while "All is Well with my Soul" sung and no one else around...will never forget it.

I went to school here decades ago. I was blessed to spend time here surrounded by a beautiful church and so much history.

I would recommend stopping by when you are in Carmel. It is an amazing historical mission and it is quite serene wandering throughout the buildings and gardens.

Pretty mission. Nice walk around the grounds with a little gift shop. They also have a museum that you can pay to walk thru.

We stopped by the mission because my mother loves it but we all ended up having a wonderful time. Sadly there was a funeral going on so we couldn't go inside the main church but we did get to see the museum and beautiful grounds. It was impressive to know that Junipero Serra is actually buried there. A must if... More
