I could tell everyone was anxious to be out of the house and on vacation! Ocean Ave. was crawling with tourists. The sidewalks aren't wide to begin with and now restaurants have moved tables outside due to Covid and it was almost impossible to 'social distance' on the street. Although most people wore masks, no one seemed to be trying to stay 6-ft. apart as they jockeyed for position in line at the bakery and to get into restaurants. And there seemed to be multi-generaltional packs traveling together which made distancing even harder.

If you want ocean, upscale galleries and shopping in high end style this is amazing. Beats everwhere in bel.air ,bests newpprt hands down. Excellent dinning. Ocean at rhe end of this higj rent street. There are several streets full to spend a day or week.
No hot dogs or can beer here. But if u want the best its here. Homes and cottages also great if u like history and design. Not for casual not for budget folks. Not a bar scene. Is high class and romantic. Almost dream like ... a must see 5 star place.

One of the best ways to see the heart of Carmel. Grab one of the free maps of the downtown area and start walking. Ocean Avenue is packed with small shops, coffee shops and restaurants. Check out the many small alleyways as there are many more hidden shops. Also, walk the side streets as many more places to visit are a block or two off of Ocean Avenue.

Really impressed with this town and the picturesque and quaint beauty of the area. We loved walking around, visiting the shops and restaurants. We went with our teen kids and a 4 year old. They all had a nice time as well. Would be really great to visit on a romantic get away or visit with friends.

We've been to Ocean Avenue many times and returned Presidents Day - Valentines Day Week-end. Its a great place to go to wine taste, go to art galleries, do shopping, and dining. It also has inns. At the very end to the west is the Pacific Ocean.

This just has to be the quaintest street we have ever walked. When we lived in San Francisco, we used to make about two trips a year to Carmel. Walking seemed to be a cinch. Now, as we are older, we walked the length of the street in both directions, and came back to our hotel room totally wiped up. And, we were wearing good shoes.

It's such an interesting street with so many interesting stops. Most stores sell high quality items, and just admiring their windows takes time. There are galleries, and many cute and charming restaurants. Each building is unique. There is even a tiny house with grass and moss growing on its roof. Flowers are everywhere.

If you so much as gaze into the street, cars will stop for you, crosswalk or no crosswalk. The drivers here are super polite, and as there is a Stop sign on every corner, no one drives fast. Most of the street has 2 hour parking, which is strictly enforced.

Ocean Ave boasts lots of shops for tourists to browse. If you've visited Carmel you know there's lots of lovely placs to shop. From art galleries and jewelry stores to places to eat, Ocean Ave is the predominate street into the heart of the village. If you follow Ocean Ave down to the bottom of the hill you'll run into the city beach and park.

I hate shopping, except when in Carmel. I'm most attracted to the buildings, flowers and signs. Everything is lovely here. Art, food, specialty shops, you will find it here. A lovely way to spend the day.
Make sure you are wearing comfy shoes....

This is a great place to walk and see a variety of shops and people. The "vendors" all have fun personalities and were ready to chat about their items and the local area. Very relaxing atmosphere.

The main street in Carmel offers everytjing from a beach to upscale galleries. The town is fun to walk and explore. Mid-week is best for no crowds.
