My 2 kids, ages 6 & 8 had their first surfing experience with Kai and Makenna. Not being strong swimmers, this was also just their 2nd time in the ocean (1st in the Pacific)
The instructors were stellar at building trust with the kids and making sure they were comfortable and having fun. They stayed on the boards with the children, allowing them to safely stand up and catch a wave without fear of wiping out. For a new sport, being comfortable and enjoying it is critical, and I'm grateful our patient instructors ensured my children were provided with that experience.
Kelly was amazing as far as being flexible and helpful with getting the lesson organized. We started thinking it'd be a mixed group of 6 kids/adults, which turned into one lesson with just my 2 kids. Kelly didn't falter at all with my inconsistency and was able to get everything organized with clear information on what to expect.
It was the ideal introduction to a new sport and I'd highly recommend!!

I had never had a surf lesson before my experience with Carmel Surf Lessons, but I immediately felt welcomed, safe, and encouraged! The instructor, Kai, was incredibly patient, thorough, and helpful when it came to getting up on my first wave. We even paddled out to explore the seaweed and shallow marine life. It was awesome. If you're in Carmel and looking for a bit of adventure and exercise, I highly recommend Carmel Surf Lessons!!
The entire process was smooth and easy. The founder Noah was accommodating of my time requests, which made it easy to schedule a lesson into my visit to Carmel. Being that it's a beach town, surfing seemed like the best way to truly experience it to the fullest to me. That's why I reached out to Noah, and I'm certainly glad that I did!

Great time surfing with Mitchell! Made sure we were comfortable in the water and on our boards . He was great at adjusting based on our goals. The beach was a great choice with both gentle and rougher waves in different areas. Wetsuits did their job. This was our second surf lesson ever and now we’re convinced to keep practicing it more seriously. The perfect way to have fun on the water and experience California surf culture for yourself!

Surfing made easy and safe - well Im sold! Monterey Bay is cold and gray to me, but surfing with this group on a sunny day in Monterey Bay was exceptional and fun and totally felt like it lasted forever! 2 full hours of surf with our instructor Noah (who also happens to own the business) was awesome. Good looking man who gave us the oral history of the inception of his surf school that he started over 35 years ago! After the lesson, his super sweet partner Ashleigh came down to visit their Bernese mountain dogs Leilani and Moana and I totally get why Noah is always smiling ear to ear!

Kelly was an awesome instructor! From the very beginning we felt like we were being taught by a very knowledgeable instructor who was very patient with us newbies. We had an awesome 2 hour lesson at Del Monte Beach and my husband was riding waves right away. It took me a little longer but Kelly had helpful tips and always kept a positive attitude. I’d definitely recommend Carmel Surf Lessons and ask for Kelly if you want a really great experience!

We found the instructors Kai, Kelly, and Ryan to be great company for our afternoon at Carmel Beach. We visited in July, and were fortunate to have both sunshine and good waves. With the wetsuits they provided, the cool water was quickly forgotten. After some instruction from the guys, all of us (wife, daughter, and I) were able to get up on several waves. Very rewarding and exhilarating experience to be on the water with good people in a beautiful place.

Booking was easy. Communication was timely. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Boards and wetsuits were is good condition and appropriate to the conditions and the skill level of each participant. Kelly was a great teacher. All the instructors were super friendly and helpful. It was a great experience that left my family and I with nothing but good things to say. I highly recommend Carmel Surf Lessons!

These guys are the best. We were a large group with kids of all ages. Everyone had a BLAST, including the little ones. Having taken surf lessons before elsewhere, I can tell you this is the best experience we've had. The instructors pay attention to everyone's learning needs, so even the little ones had a chance to learn to surf! Can't say enough about how cool this was.

Was able to schedule a last minute surf lesson with Rob...HAD A FANTASTIC TIME!! Carmel Surf provided the wetsuit, board and two-hour, one-on-one lesson for only $100. How awesome is that?? The instructors look up the best waves spot the morning of & meet you right there by the water. My instructor catered the lesson to me, allowing me to slowly but surely get better each time I tackled a wave. By the end of the session, I probably TRULY SURFED (versus just standing up and "kinda" balancing on the board) all the way in to the shoreline maybe twenty times. This was my first time boarding, no experience at all. Super friendly too, we ended up boarding more than three hours. I went solo this time, but I'm going to schedule lessons with them again for next month when I'm in town again. Can't wait!

Best surf lessons in the history of all time. The instructor Makena was super stoked, an expert at recognizing where we were erring and providing helpful cues for modifications, and hilarious. He was patient with us and the younger kids in our class and by the end of our first lesson we were SHREDDING ALL THE GNAR. (Although gnar is actually an inexhaustible resource so there will be plenty left for you when you take your lessons.) The boards and wetsuits were top notch and well maintained. We went on a coldish day and at the end of our lesson they even had WARM fresh water to rinse off with. LIKE CHERRY ON TOP OF THE TRIPLE DECKER BANANA SPLIT SUNDAE! 5 out of 5 stars totally recommend.

What will the weather be like in April? How should I dress for this tour? Would you recommend this for a teenager and parents who have never surfed?

sorry I missed this, I hope you came to Carmel and enjoyed your self! We can have great weather in April and fun waves for learning. I would say the teenagers are always excited when their parents surf with them. We will assist you through out the entire experience to ensure your success. Cheers Noah
