We were browsing on the side streets of Carmel and came across this wonderful artwork. Huge windows and large open space, so we were able to look at and appreciate the many various sculptures, even though, the indoor area cannot be entered (it is roped off 5/2) as workmen are painting and remodeling. Unfortunately, we could not watch the artist at work.

If you go, and you definitely should, be sure to bring a treat for Wellington, the resident dog. My teenage kids had fun petting him while I browsed the gallery . Steven Whyte is very talented and it was unique being able to just walk in and watch him at work. We enjoyed spending time in his gallery so much that we purchased a small sculpture of Wellington to bring home with us.

Steven Whyte is usually at his studio, sometimes even working, always ready to discuss one of his works and full of clever anecdotes. The sculptures are evocative and thoughtfully created, each one with a personality of its own. Art claims its rightful home, and one of these creations is likely to claim yours - it's just a matter of choosing.
In a town where galleries often represent many artists, it's nice to visit one where you can discuss the process and the outcome with the artist himself.

Steven is a very talented artist and unlike some, is very approachable. Visitors to his gallery can see him at work and talk with him about his art, which is very unusual, as most artists have salespeople as buffers. Also make sure you visit with Welly, his four-legged salesman.

Last March 18, 2016 my husband, Luie, passed away after a five + year battle with cancer. I was committed to finding the best way to honor him, his talent and his love as a professional photographer. I decided that I wanted to have a statue made of him but I didn't know anything about statue making. After doing some searching for a sculptor I had the great luck of finding Steven Whyte. Luie and I loved spending weekends in Carmel and it only seemed fitting to find an artist there. Steven agreed to make the statue and this is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not only is Steven an incredible talent and committed to detail, but he is empathetic and I immediately knew he felt the grief my family and I were going through. Steven has helped my family process our sadness and love of Luie through his art and I will forever be grateful and think of not only Luie when I look out in our garden and see him sitting peacefully by our fountain, but also of Steven, who made it happen for us.

Personable and talented transplanted Brit sculptor, Steven, is often there in the shop and up for a "chat" if not dedicating one of his monumental creations somewhere else in the state or country. As an owner of two of his wonderful works, Inna and Crystal, I am still a regular visitor to his interesting and constantly changing Dolores, Carmel shop; eyeing the new affordable (to me) bronzes and seeing if my ever lengthening wish-list needs reprioritizing. Worth many visits, it is the first place I show up when on an excursion from the bay area.

This artists skill speaks for itself and the staff is friendly and professional. Steven Whyte himself is charming and entertaining in his own right. A beautiful little shop full with artistic treasures!! I was delighted to leave with a piece for my own collection. . I highly recommend you see for yourself. I know I will always remember our lovely trip to California each time I look at the beautiful pieces I purchased.

Both my husband and I are artists in Canada, and when we visited Carmel last year, we wandered into Steven Whyte's studio by chance. What a great experience, to see works in progress and finished works. A real delight for other artists to share. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Carmel!

Steven Whyte's Sculpture Studio and Gallery has to go on your list of places to see while visiting Carmel. Steven is often there himself and doing his work in the gallery. It is really fascinating to see him creating his art. His pieces are all so beautiful and would be a impressive addition to anyone's collection.

I actually had a business relationship with prior owners of this gallery space, and always look inside to see what is going on during different time periods. The artist's prime income appears to be for funded commissions in municipal places, although smaller pieces are available for purchase. The educational displays of how the bronze casting is accomplished are very educational. The artist's wife was there during our visit, and was very hospitable.
