We stumbled upon this gem while taking a road trip. It was so relaxing and the cold, cool, warm and hot pools were great as were the steam room and sauna. No booking was required and we were able to turn up on the day and enjoy a lazy morning of tranquility. Possibly because of it being a weekday the... More

Refuge is tucked in a canyon not far from Carmel. You can get a massage or just go for the pools and relaxation. Included in your entry fee are the steam room, the sauna, the relaxation room (so relaxing!!!) and a number of pools ranging from ice cool to really, really hot. If you ask one of the staff, they'll... More

So calm and quiet. Just being able to reconnect to self and breathe was so needed and rewarded. The detoxifying ritual is amazing. I would recommend this to everyone who wants and needs to be in the moment , especially fellow therapists of any field. I am personally a massage therapist/esthetician and I give a lot to others. This is... More

The Refuge is a beautiful quiet area to renew and pamper yourself. I had the best massage that I have every had by Jonathan and before and after massage used the steam, sauna , cool and cold, warm and hot pools. I rested inside on 0 gravity tables. I have done it with friends and since it is so quiet... More

If you need a place to unwind from the daily grind this is it! The Refuge offers a series of hot Jacuzzi style pools, and cold dipping pools that deeply relax when done in sequence. The experience starts with either a sauna or a steam bath, followed by the cold and then hot pools. In between sit by one of... More

Love this place and come every year at this time. Recommend getting there before you massage (if you do one) to get a couple "cycles" in first (steam/sauna; cold pool; hot pool; chill out; repeat!!). Second year year in a row we've arrive at opening (10am) and the steam room wasn't hot yet. This year sauna too. Note to management,... More

We came to this place on a whim after extending a business trip - coming from non-stop stress into this place of lovely dipping pools and out door fire pits was a frickin' dream come true. We came during the day on a week day so it was relatively calm with just a few other guests. We both got wonderful... More

I've brought a number of friends and family members to The Refuge for some R&R since discovering it a few yrs ago. Since I've only come during the daytime, I brought my hubby after a nice dinner in Monterey (15 min drive). I scheduled a message for him with Jessica and he reported that it was the best he ever... My husband & I visited Refuge last night. It was his 1st visit & my 2nd. It was a busy Saturday evening. The pools were dirty & had not been cleaned/filtered, as evidence by the visible debris at the bottom of all the pools. The stairs in the steam room were muddy. There were a few attendants nearby, but no... More

We've been several times and have had consistently good experiences regardless of seasons or staff. The staff are quiet, respectful and helpful. Whether you are just going for a few thermal cycles or adding a massage, the prices are reasonable and worth the time to disconnect from the constant pounding pressures. Leave your cell phone, worries and pressures in your... More
