A beautiful beach before reaching Point Loma. This coarse sand beach is one of a kind. The powerful waves and rugged sandstone formations provide plenty of good photo ops. However, it is not safe to wade nor swim, due to the strong undertows and rip...More

As the title of this review indicates, there is a sinister side to Monastery Beach due to the carelessness foolishness of some of the swimmers who swim here. This is attested to by the numerous drownings. Monastery Beach is nestled in between Point Lobos State...More

If you are a Northern California Diver you may have heard the term "Monastery Crawl." It was created for a reason. You will most likely exit your dive this way! On a clear visibility day - Yes its a beautiful place to dive. You might...More

Sadly, Monastery Beach along Highway One south of Carmel, California, has earned the nickname "Mortuary Beach." That is because the beach has a steep slope and strong waves with a rip current. It's a beautiful and easily accessed beach, but over the years many careless...More

There are great views from this small beach but even better views can be had at Carmel Beach or even Asilomar. The main reason I caution people is there have been so many drownings here; the 'sneaker waves' and dramatic drop-off are very dangerous to...More

It's a nice view but watch the signs as it's easy to get too close to areas that are dangerous. There are warnings posted but a lot of people walked right past them. Visit the little monastery behind it. There is a cute little garden...More

Look and appreciate the beauty but don't go near the water. Serious undertows at this beach. Too many have given their life to this stretch of water.

Beautiful to look at from shore, but can't underestimate the dangerous rip currents! Way too many people have died in that water!

Park by the Bay School. Climb up to the rocks for a wonderful high view. Walk north to the mouth of the Carmel River. Walk up to The Cross. Enjoy the wildflowers, the birds in the wetlands along with the deer and occasionaly bobcat. Walk...More

1) How is the beach for a wedding? 2) When is a good month to have a wedding at this beach?

It probably would be but as for when our best weather is in the fall and the spring. The summer months can be socked in fog. I'm not sure who you need to contact to get permission to have a wedding on the beach.
