While beautiful, this beach, know to locals as "Mortuary Beach", is deadly. The warning signs have been improved over the years, but still don't inform the public of the immensities of its dangers. Just las week, a father an son were swept off the beach...More

Monastery Beach is just south of Carmel on Rt 1. On the north end of the beach, you can look out and see a wash rock ~200 yard off the beach. Between the beach and the wash rock is a thick kelp forest, rich with...More

This beach is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!! It is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN! Many visitors have died here, giving this beach the haunting nickname of "Mortuary Beach" by locals. Even those walking or playing on the sand have been swept into the ocean by unexpected large waves...More

This beach is very easy to get too, it's right off the highway, free parking. What is really great about this beach is the sand. It's just right size, so it feels soft while walking or sitting, but doesn't stick and doesn't get everywhere. Perfect!...More

I had a quick swim today but could feel the power of the surf and undertow. I did not go out of my depth, keeping very close to the shore. This is a beautiful unspoilt beach with coarse sand, which brushes off wet feet easily!

Monastery Beach is one of the most accessible and visible beaches on the Monterey Peninsula. It's also one of the most dangerous, as other reviewers have noted. While I've been in the water here numerous times (I was SCUBA certified here in college), I'm still...More

I stopped here early in the morning - before sunrise - because of the waves and tide, so I had the entire beach to myself. The beach was very clean, and seems as if it would be a good option on a warm, sunny day,...More

Great beach for a picnic. We sat and watched the waves and gulls. There are restrooms so its a good spot to stop while traveling.

The nicest access to the beach is through the carmel meadows in a neighborhood off Ribera Road. At the left side of the neighborhood you can park and walk through a beautiful tree-lined staircase down to the beach. The water is very deep and has...More

We did a quick stop here to simply check the water temperature - we are tourists and it seemed an easy place to paddle. Saw the warning signs and proceeded with care. Nice clean beach with quite a few families sitting in the sun. Not...More

It probably would be but as for when our best weather is in the fall and the spring. The summer months can be socked in fog. I'm not sure who you need to contact to get permission to have a wedding on the beach.
