Attended a 50th birthday party here recently and the experience for all of us was wonderful. What a great venue - rustic charm, beautiful location nestled in a valley and great layout. The pool (off to the side of the property) is not gated, so anyone with adventurous, non-swimmer kids should be aware. Ample parking. Presence of roaming peacocks is... More

Leo Carrillo was a famous actor on Broadway and in over 90 movies in Hollywood, but best known for the Cisco Kid TV series. This ranch was a retreat for him and his family. Now, this 27 acre property is a free, Carlsbad city park with great landscaping and dozens of peacocks.

Beautiful setting, an interesting piece of history surrounding some of Hollywood history. Enjoyed the tour, very informative. Didn't get to see the white peacock but the peacocks were everywhere! Check the schedule, we got in free, mid-day on Sundays.

We live nearby and go here fairly often to wander the very well kept grounds and admire the peacocks and adobes. People get married here and photographers bring clients here for sessions in the picturesque grounds. Interesting displays on the history of the property and just a great place to wander. Excellent for families with kids who like to investigate.

Very interesting story about an "old time" actor and his passion for a ranch life. Visitor center shows a short movie about the Carillo family. Free admission but unfortunately the buildings aren't open except for tours.

This is a small place but has a lot of old movie history. Best time to go would be on a weekend since only weekends have the possibility of a tour. And the tour is a must since you get to go into the houses and receive a lot more info from the guide.

We went on the free docent led tour and were we lucky. Our docent was fantastic. She lead us through the entire grounds (took about 90 minutes) and kept us engaged throughout. Easy to access off of Melrose Road, Leo Carrillo Ranch offers a nice respite for the San Diego rush. Plenty of parking. When you enter, you will be... More

Unfortunately had little time for lunch, but the park is a great find. Will love to go back and explore this historic place. Ate our lunch in the shade at a picnic table, thanks to docent Geraldine who saw suggested it. Looks interesting and very well preserved. Looking forward to return to spend more time and watch the film on... More

It's an old Spanish style rancho built by a Hollywood actor Leo Carrillo. It is owned by the city of Carlsbad and was going to be developed as a city park. Instead, it became a historic landmark. It continues to be restored and preserved as an educational experience for all.

The grandparents will love the beautiful gardens and appreciate the history. Your kids can act like kids because it's mostly outside. You can preserve your sanity because everyone is happy. Throw in a picnic lunch and it's a bargain, as well.
