This is a small place but has a lot of old movie history. Best time to go would be on a weekend since only weekends have the possibility of a tour. And the tour is a must since you get to go into the houses and receive a lot more info from the guide.

We went on the free docent led tour and were we lucky. Our docent was fantastic. She lead us through the entire grounds (took about 90 minutes) and kept us engaged throughout. Easy to access off of Melrose Road, Leo Carrillo Ranch offers a nice respite for the San Diego rush. Plenty of parking. When you enter, you will be... More

Unfortunately had little time for lunch, but the park is a great find. Will love to go back and explore this historic place. Ate our lunch in the shade at a picnic table, thanks to docent Geraldine who saw suggested it. Looks interesting and very well preserved. Looking forward to return to spend more time and watch the film on... More

It's an old Spanish style rancho built by a Hollywood actor Leo Carrillo. It is owned by the city of Carlsbad and was going to be developed as a city park. Instead, it became a historic landmark. It continues to be restored and preserved as an educational experience for all.

The grandparents will love the beautiful gardens and appreciate the history. Your kids can act like kids because it's mostly outside. You can preserve your sanity because everyone is happy. Throw in a picnic lunch and it's a bargain, as well.

Before coming here, I didn't know much about Leo Carrillo's life and his preservation and conservation for the state of California. I am so glad I do now. He was an amazing man who made a difference. The park is beautiful: nice landscaping, peacocks roaming free, and places to have picnic lunch. There is plenty of free parking and handicap... More

It was great to find out more about this man who was a child hood hero. The work that has been put into restoring the... More
