We have a family scavenger hunt every summer in the village and it includes the museum. The museum is small but worth the look. They have different exhibits, currently they have antique postcards. They also have building exhibits of some of the old beach changing/dressing rooms and a cottage. The docents are knowledgeable and friendly. There is not a cost... More

For a small museum, this one is very interesting. When we visited, we learned about the history of postcards as well as the Capitola area through an exhibit of postcards from the 1900s. Museum hours are limited, so you might want to check before going. Museum is a short walk from the Esplanade area. A separate building that you don't... More

The Capitola Historical Museum is well worth stopping in when you visit Capitola Beach. It is just down from the two large paid parking lots as you walk down Capitola Avenue on the way to the Village. I do recommend these upper Village parking lots to avoid the congestion along the Esplanade. The walk is not far and if you... More

Capitola is California's oldest seaside resort town. Learn about the oddities of this little gem of a community from its early mid-1800's days until the present. Lots of color to be found in this town's history!

I came here for a Plein Air Painting MeetUp, where we gathered to view their Postcard Exhibit, showing a history of postcards from the 1800's to the present. The exhibit will be on through December 2015. The curator has done an excellent job displaying the postcards chronologically by decade, and included a display of books people used for storing and... This looks like an interesting small museum housed in old buildings near the city hall. But the hours are too few and far between. We happened to visit Capitola on a Thursday, and the museum was closed all day. We peeked in the windows of an old beach cabin furnished to depict how it would have been back in the... More

This is one of those destinations that few people know about but for those of us who do, this place is a pleasant departure from the hectic life of the city! Over the years, I’ve made many trips here with my friends to fish or to dine at one of their exceptional restaurants along the coast! There are no major... More

I have great difficulties describing a place that I will return to for more intensive and in-depth exploration. I visited Capitola only because I did not want to drive the extra miles to Santa Cruz and have to put up with dense traffic and panhandlers. This was my first time and I was struck by the calmness (mid week noon)... More

Literally, we were in and out in about 10 minutes. The kids like seeing an original "Beach Cottage". They couldn't believe how tiny it was. We're so spoiled!
