About
Though visitors cannot enter the ruins of this formerly majestic fortress, it's worth a visit for the gorgeous backdrop of Chomolhari mountain.

When it was a large stronghold, the Dzong was renowned for its exquisite architecture and elaborate sculptures. But after a fire devastated it in the early 20th century, it was abandoned and left to deteriorate. The Dzong's remains are still present and are a well-liked destination for travelers to Bhutan. The remnants of the stronghold provide tourists with a fascinating look into the surrounding mountains and valley, as well as information about Bhutan's past and present.

At present it is only possible to view from the outside. If traveling from Paro, there are good views across the valley and it looks impressive. Unfortunately, it is still undergoing renovation so there is no internal access. Our guide estimated it was twelve months away from completion.

This attraction is very close from Tigers Nest.
Roads are good to reach this attraction.
It is more of a ruined Dzong.
Nothing much to see, if you are a lover of history, then this is a must visit place.

Nothing much except for the lovely drive to this place, that said the drive itself is wonderful with lovely vies of Paro Valleys mountain deity Chomolohari on clear days.
The Dzong itself has not much to see as most of it is closed for renovation.

There are many thongs in Bhutan - each with the same overall structure of a split between Government Offices and Buddhist monasteries. This one in Paro is particularly worth a visit - the location in central Paro makes it easy to visit and the views from the zhong are spectacular. One gets a real sense of peace and quiet during the visit and this must be a marvellous location to work in one of the Government Offices!

This Dzong was on our tour but it is in ruins due to a fire. Do not make the trip out to see it. There are many other sites worth the time!

Its a lovely place - a small trek which even small children will be fine with gets you a ruin that was once an important Dzong. It has a great view from the top but could seriously do with some bathroom amenities or some sign boards...

This Dzong is destroyed by a fire from a butter lamp .. That's what I'm told by my Bhutan tour guide.. The journey to this Dzong was filled with fresh air , scenic beauty of the mountains .. Just watch your steps of the dog poo or whatever poo on the way ..

The Dzong is in ruins but it was worth the visit for me to get some clear glimpses of the peak of Jumolhari in the distance. It's located at the trail head for the Jumolhari trek so the views are really beautiful here...though most views in Bhutan are! :) It is a very serene place, meet some locals, take in the views, also can view the Tiger's Nest across the valley from the drive there.
It's not a far drive from Paro at all, definitely worth a quick visit if it's not a super cloudy day.

This dzong is perched on the crest of a hill above the Paro Chu. There is a delightful walk around the dzong rising gradually to the walls. The inner part of the dzong was closed due to damage September 2011 and before but there were great views down and up the valley including the peak of Jhomolhari. Trekking ponies were being loaded in the village which is the start point of a number of multi-day treks.
