We tried to do the hot springs/mud bath experience on the day we hiked in the Rincon park. Much to our disappointment, RSVPs were needed in advance and we didn't have them. They were fully booked, so we RSVP'd online and returned the following day. Note that you have to stop at the info center/hotel first to obtain your bracelets. Also, with no reservation, you'll have to pay a small toll to get in the gate leading into the entire park area. The hot springs (there are 10) were interesting, and not always at the temp advertised. There's a river running through and between the pools, which is beautiful! The mud (& washing off in the river) was fun and refreshing. There was nearly no one there on the day we visited, so they allowed us to take as much time as we wanted. Nice! Rustic bathrooms on premise, but note that their lockers weren't working when we went.

We just came for the tubing tour. After reading poor reviews about the conditions of the horses, we opted for the 2:30 tour which uses buses rather than horses. We were excited to only have 8 of us on the tour until the bus made a second stop and picked up another 40 people. The trek down to the river is long and steep with uneven steps. There is a rope to help support and guide but the posts are not very sturdy. You’re carrying your tube so you don’t really use the rope rail anyway. Once you get to the river, you sit on your tube and get pushed into the river. This is NOT A LAZY RIVER RIDE!! I was under the impression it was a lax tubing ride with some rapids. Oh no!! It’s quite the opposite. This is a white water ride with a few, very short areas of calm. While this was a surprise to many, we still had fun. Helpful hint: Try to keep your head, arms and legs folded in and butt up during the rapids to decrease bumps and bruises in the end! The ride was fun and only about half of the people overturned their tubes. At the end, you climb a very, very steep hill, once again carrying your tube to the bus. You trade in your tube, life vest and helmet for a towel and drink of water. After discussing it with my group of 6, ages 19 to 70, we agreed we would have liked to be more prepared for the walk and white waters but we all said we’d do it again!

Tubing at Hacienda Guachipelin is "Not a lazy river ride", but visitors have lots of fun doing it. We are glad to know that you would do it again. Pura Vida !!!!

Super fun, but exhausting day! It's actually hard to choose a favorite activity - they were all great! The staff was all extremely professional and kind. I was a little nervous at first to do the zip lining, but I felt immediately at ease once I saw what a well-oiled machine they had.

We stayed at the hotel, so we were able to go back and forth at lunch and after tubing (before we drove ourselves to the hot springs which were our least favorite part anyway).

Highly recommend a stop here if you're up for an action-packed day that gets you out in nature and enjoying the scenery.

We did a horseback ride to La Oropendola Waterfall last month. The waterfall is beautiful but the horseback riding was really not that enjoyable and I wouldn't recommend it for small children. The horses crowd each other on the narrow trails and can be stubborn. They also have a tendency to try to kick each other. I ended up getting kicked by the horse in front of me and ended up with a huge welt on my shin. Maybe some of the other horses are better trained and wider trails would be better. However, I would not recommend the La Oropendola Waterfall horse ride with kids. I would go back to Hacienda Guachipelin for the other activities but would not do the horseback riding again there.

My husband and i went to Ricon de la Viejo specifically to do the Canyon zip lining tour. This has been on my bucket list for many years. I have to say...this was way beyond my expectations! It was the most exilererating experience i ever had. We were very lucky to get to do this tour. We were in Costa Rica the week before their borders closed due to the Covid19. Daniel, the lead person for the tour was so informative and encouraging during the entire tour. He made you feel at ease and never panic with the “small” landing stations. The zip lining and Tarzan swing over the canyon were breath taking. Jason was our ‘catch person”. He was very competent and always made sure were were safe when arriving on a platform. Christian was the photographer....he made sure he captured perfect pictures and videos to add to this wonderful experience. You had a choice regarding the rock climbing and rappelling. We chose not to do this. It looked like fun but i had just recovered from some kind of stomach bug and didn’t have the strength to climb. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who has always wanted to zip line. This is the place to do it! This was the highlight of our trip and something i will never forget. Thank you to Daniel, Jason and Christian for making my dream come true!

MTB riding - great 4 he ride on a double loop of the whole enchilada. Very good trail conditions with the downhill red trail being the best mix of flow and chunk. New Ibis Ripley AL bikes. Best to book ahead to ensure you have a bike.

First time going to Costa Rica, booked their one day adventure tour for 11 of us - 2 couples in our 50’s and our “kids” aged 15-23. I was worried that everyone would be very unhappy as this tour was a 2 hour drive each way for us from where we were staying (Hacienda Pinella). This tour was beyond what we imagined, and it was well worth the drive. We all had a blast and the highlight of our week here. It was VERY organized, the staff are so friendly, and there was never a wait, it was fun and the terrain was beautiful. Our tour: checkin at 8:30am, get geared up, go on zipline canopy tour, horseback riding, whitewater rafting on individual tubes and lunch (served at 1:45pm). Then you can go to hot springs if you like. We hit the road to head back at 4:30pm. Everyone who works there is beyond friendly, lunch was delicious. I would say this is good for active people, the rafting is rigorous and you need to carry your heavy tube up a steep hill at the end. Horseback riding is basic but still fun. Zip lining was great, lots of beautiful scenery, waterfalls, some rock climbing if you like. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We really enjoyed staying at the Hacienda Guachipelin, and took in the full day adventure tour which included horseback ride, river tubing, zip-lining, and mud bath & hot springs.
Staying at the resort we ate there and the buffets were good.
The tour operators were very conscious of safety for everyone, and made sure that everyone was well taken care of.
We especially enjoyed the river tubing... if you only do one of the many adventures offered, do the tubing! Great fun!

Tubing on Class IV rapids is one of the most insane things we've ever done. Adventure Tours was focused on safety throughout the entire trip (including Covid protocols). No athletic ability is required. Just hang on and have fun.

We went early on New Year's day and had the thermal pools all to ourselves. The weather was beautiful, the backdrop, volcanic mud, and pools were relaxing and refreshing! We saw some comments about a nasty smell, aesthetics of the pools, etc., but we did not experience any offputting smells and the pools looked well maintained. These are not resort style pools with bright blue and green tiling with clear water to appease what most like to see at a nice resort or hotel. These are natural hot spring water pools and each pool has different hues which makes the adventure even more unique. We didn't smell any chemicals, the workers at the reception and at the pools were lovely and attentive.

The walk to the thermal pools was well marked and pretty easy (about 5-7 minutes each way). The hanging bridges were a fun touch!

We will definitely visit again and enjoyed being at the springs to kick-off 2025!
