Was stationed here from 1998-2001. I absolutely loved 64 Area. Completely isolated and under the radar. Most Marines on Pendleton didn’t even know it was there. Had to ford water to get to work somedays! I was in the optics shop up by the ramp. Kerosene heater on the cold winter mornings. Damnit I’ve had a great life.

I was stationed at Camp Talega in 1977-1980.
Camp Talega was FAR away from any other installation on Pendleton.
I was the Commanding Office of Bravo Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion.
I went back for a visit last year and they have LONG since moved to Unit to the harbor at Oceanside.
GREAT memories of jumping, diving, patrolling and swimming...........

I actually was stationed at 1st Recon Bn back in the early 80s , I can still hear Sergeant Maj Henderson telling us to saddle up for yet another motivating PT run . Some of the hardest times of my life were spent at Talega but I would not trade it for anything .

The hidden gem of C.P. I was blessed to live on this gift from God for 6 months before I went to Fallujah in 2006. No chow hall so only the strong survived with dominos pizza. Also had a surprise visit from the Jackass crew and Steve-o. More than likely got our 1st Sgt.got contact high from his bowl that he toked on. Heartbreak Ridge a fantastic Marine movie with Clint Eastwood was filmed here as well. Thank you Talega for being a part of my life bucket list.

Pain and misery go hand in hand with patrol phase BRC. Do not recommend. I don't care what Gunny Highway says, this place sucks.

Loved it 76/77 DRP A Co, Ist Recon. I remember Beach Bum B helping me and a small team atop a cold and wet minor peak on 29 Palms.

As a marine this is the first time I had been to this base. My son had his Navy Sea Cadet training here. Amazed as to how well it is kept up to Marine traditions. My son did great during training, & memories were built.

Sure,
I got a letter from the VA at one time stating sites within United States that listed areas In the US contaminated by agent orange, Camp telega , by the truck wash rack in the ditch that runs away from it was one of the sites, I was there During operation "new arrivals"and worked there for approximately seven months now that I'm in my 60s, showing signs of agent orange exposure but I can't find the document. Any info? Have diabetes, in total kidney failure, and I'm sure I know what was used to defoliate the area to set up all the tents to sleep 70k+ people that were there.
