We stopped into the tasting room at August Briggs in downtown Calistoga on a Sunday morning in late August. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we were able to sit outside on the beautiful patio. One of the owners was our server and he shared a bit of his extensive knowledge of the grapes and the wine with us. We enjoyed the tasting and really enjoyed speaking with the owner. The tasting fee at August Briggs is $25 per tasting, however, it is waived with the purchase of one bottle of wine per tasting. We enjoyed the wine and we were happy to purchase a couple of bottles of their wine. We did not have reservation and it was not a problem, although the patio did start to fill up by the time we were leaving early that afternoon.

Conveniently located in downtown Calistoga, August Briggs Winery was definitely a diamond in the rough. We came here on a bicycle tour and it was definitely a highlight of the day. If you enjoy tasting outside the norm, this is definitely a place to check out. The cabernet sauvignon was incredible!

This is a great tasting room with friendly and engaging staff. The wine selection is good and the tasting guide very helpful, but the whole experience is made so much more homely by the attentions of Kiefer the dog.

Excellent wines, friendly tasting room. If you go give Kiefer a pet for us, he's a rad tasting room dog with a good rescue story.

We had a great tasting experience at August Briggs. Very friendly and informative staff (go see Tom!) - we also got to taste some wine out of the barrels and from 2 of the stainless steel tanks. This is in addition to the wines they are pouring in the tasting room - and it was free! I would of glady paid for the tastings though as these wines were excellent. I definitely hope to be able to visit this winery again, wonderful experience.

Nice pleasant tasting room in town. Wines were good. Free tasting with the purchase of one bottle, about $45.

Stopped by August Briggs while vacationing in Napa and Sonoma. We prefer to stop by the lesser known and smaller wineries. If you are in the Calistoga area you definitely need to put this one on your must visit list! Super friendly staff in the tasting room and very low key...no pressure and no attitude. They really help you understand their different wines and make you a better wine enthusiast along the way. We loved all of their wines and ended up joining their wine club. They also are pouring a rather unusual varietal called "Charbono"...make sure to try it.

Nice variety of wines. Charbono and Zinfandels were our favorites. Reasonable price for Napa valley. Worth the time. Tasting room staff were helpful.

We LOVED our visit to August Briggs. We found them through the Calistoga Winter Passport. The wines are delicious - I'm not sure we had a single favorite. The tasting room staff was absolutely incredible - very personable, very accommodating, and VERY knowledgeable!! We had an appointment (HIGHLY recommended) so they took the time for our questions and to determine our interests. The location is perfect as other wineries and eating establishments are close by. We highly recommend a stop at August Briggs!!

I recently visited August Briggs and really enjoyed the experience. They have a small tasting room on Lincoln Avenue in Calistoga and a very nice staff. The organization is employee-owned and they have been in business for over 20 years. They are very serious about their wine and have some really excellent choices.Because they but their grapes from other growers, they have some interesting and different varietals. I started with a 2012 Leveroni Vineyard Chardonnay that was very tasty. The vineyard is located just south of Sonoma Town Square on Leveroni Road.
Next I tasted a Pinot Noir flight from Dijon Clones grown in the Green Island Vineyard in South Napa Valley. The 2011 was excellent and had an old world taste to it. The 2012 was nice, but the 2013 was superb. Though young it is very good and very fruity.
Next I tasted the 2012 Napa Valley "Wishes" which is a red blend. This wine is different every year and this particular version consisted of equal parts Charbono, Petite Syrah, Syrah, and Zinfandel. I really loved this wine and strongly recommend it.
I finished with the 2011 Two Moon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a very solid and smooth Cabernet from the Dry Creek Appellation in Sonoma County.
Business during my visit was steady and those visiting were serious wine people. I appreciated the thoroughness and education provided by my host. If you are in Calistoga, make a point to stop in.
