In town tasting room

Nice pleasant tasting room in town. Wines were good. Free tasting with the purchase of one bottle, about $45.

Great wines and some new varietals
Feb 2019 • Couples
Stopped by August Briggs while vacationing in Napa and Sonoma. We prefer to stop by the lesser known and smaller wineries. If you are in the Calistoga area you definitely need to put this one on your must visit list! Super friendly staff in the tasting room and very low key...no pressure and no attitude. They really help you understand their different wines and make you a better wine enthusiast along the way. We loved all of their wines and ended up joining their wine club. They also are pouring a rather unusual varietal called "Charbono"...make sure to try it.

My wife and I went here and it was very impressive. I'm a pretty good judge of wine and I must say their wine is a solid 90. Very very good.

Great Wine
May 2018 • Couples
Recently visited the tasting room, and it is always a pleasure to try the different varietals from different soil types. If you make an appointment, they go out of their way to make you feel special. The staff is very knowledgeable about the wines. Our favorites are the big reds and we especially like the Charbonno since few wineries have this wine. We have been members of the wine club for years, and we have always been impressed with the wines.

Varying from the tasting menu to compare three Zinfandels
Mar 2018 • Couples
This is a fun tasting room. Our host -- we think her name is Bonnie -- provided everything on the tasting menu, but as the tasters showed an interest in the 2014 Russian River Zinfandel, she decided to let us experiment. First, she pulled out a 2014 old vines Zinfandel, meaning the grapes came from vines that are many decades old. But before we could taste it, she also pulled out an ancient vines 2014 Zinfandel, meaning the grapes came from vines more than a century old. This was interesting. Side by side, we were able to compare the three with hefty pours. Some of the tasters favored the old vines. Some, like us, favored the ancient vines. All of us were thrilled by a congenial host willing to let us experiment. And all of us ended up ordering some of this small winery's bottles. Worth a stop if you are in Calistoga.

Good wines at fair price

Nice variety of wines. Charbono and Zinfandels were our favorites. Reasonable price for Napa valley. Worth the time. Tasting room staff were helpful.

Wine tasting
Jan 2018 • Family
My family went to August Briggs yesterday (on a Saturday) wanting to do a tasting. We arrived around 5:55. The hours online say they are open until 7. Thinking we had plenty of time we went in. The lady working was rude. We told her we thought they were open until 7. She replied, "Who says that? We are closed and just haven't changed the sign yet." And then shut the door on us. We went around the corner to Olabisi, where the door was open.. And they actually did close at 6. The tasting attendent there was kind and hospitable. We left with a few hundred dollars worth of wonderful wine. I would recommend skipping August Briggs and checking out Olabisi if you'd like good service.

Make August Briggs a "must stop"
Jan 2018 • Couples
We LOVED our visit to August Briggs. We found them through the Calistoga Winter Passport. The wines are delicious - I'm not sure we had a single favorite. The tasting room staff was absolutely incredible - very personable, very accommodating, and VERY knowledgeable!! We had an appointment (HIGHLY recommended) so they took the time for our questions and to determine our interests. The location is perfect as other wineries and eating establishments are close by. We highly recommend a stop at August Briggs!!

Great way to start the winery visits

Complimentary tasting as I was staying across the road at Calistoga Inn. This entitled me to six tastings as I was alone. I was served by Dean who was very knowledgeable and friendly and a great ambassador for the area.
The $38 2014 Charbono was the best of the wines - very drinkable.
