After a visit of Pagaruyung palace in August 2019, we visited other typical villages with very beautiful and colourful in the surroundings, i.e. Sulit Air, Pariangan and Rao Rao.
We were lucky as we also visited manufacturing home-made tofu.
Highly recommended to visit!!!

When I read an article reviewing this village as the best village in the world, I was so excited and shortly put it in my bucket list.

Going by car from Bukittinggi, you will pass through the green paddyfields that feels refreshing. The village is a small community with some old houses and a large mosque. While they are unique (and looks good on the picture), there’s nothing else to see or learn. The road going to the mosque (located at the center of the village) are full of modern architectural houses that degrades the historical village.

With increasing awareness for tourism, the village is building some new facilities such as toilet and parking area. However, they were not carefully designed and did not blend with the great village atmosphere.

You will typically spend only 30-45 minutes then leave, nothing to do. If you are moslem, dont forget to spend time to do pray (Jamaah) at the centuries old mosque.

I would suggest the community/local government to preserve the old houses, try to build new facility using local architectural design, and probably have something like a cultural agenda so that people can stay longer.

Just got back from A week tour over West Sumatera, Sumbar.
Visited many places, however this Pariangan is one of our favorites.

As the nature is so beautiful with paddy field, Traditonal houses and one of the oldest mosque at the village, unfortunately we didnt have much time to explore the whole village, thus, we missed the hotspring.

Local with a truly Minang manner, honest and kind to all visitor, i do understand a bit of Minang, though. Unlike other tourist attraction where sometimes too much merchant trying to force you to buy whatever yhings theyre selling, this village is one of em.

This village was named as one of the most beautiful village in the world. Located near Batusangkar at the foot of mount Merapi. The village was unique and was really beautiful. An old mosque and hot spring.
