Great place to visit
Jul 2021
The signposting to this place is not the best. Don't be put off just follow unmetalled road to the farm as the observatory building is towards the back of the farm right on the shore line. The main cabin was closed due to COVID but there were two open hides on the side where we spent over 2 hours watching a few seabirds. I write a few which was a bit disappointing for us which we think was due to the tide. But we did spot a seal's head several times too. Nevertheless we enjoyed it a lot and if we would be in the area again we definitely will come back.

closed but still worth it

was closed (maybe due to Covid or being 4pm?) but it's still lovely to sit in the sheltered hide areas and just look out to sea. Quite a few Eiders today

Fantastic place.

This place is well worth visiting, for anyone with even the slightest interest in birds or wildlife in general. The area is stunning so even if the observatory isn't open, it's still worthwhile. The warden, Eddie, is so passionate and full of knowledge, and is happy to teach novices like myself. I learnt a lot in my few hours there, and look forward to returning.

PS - The place is run and funded by volunteers, so if visiting I am sure they would appreciate a donation - however small - to their costs.

Visiting the observatory

Visited today for the first time. Met Eddie the warden.
Well what a wonderful experience!!!

Amazing wildlife, amazing man who tells you all about the incredible wildlife you can see from the warm hide.

Bought a copy of Eddies DVD to help them continue the great service and the fab facilities provided.
Great place for a wheelchair user to visit.

I can not recommend this place highly enough - GO

Great views and sightings

After a wee while, the two boys manning this warmed to the fact that we were actually interested and they were really helpful and informative.
Stunning pictures around the wall.
It was a wee bit wild the day we were there which showed off the birds' flying skills.
Saw several birds struggling with plastic and nylon rope/string stuck in/on them. Why don't people take their rubbish home with them?
If you are down the Mull of Kintyre, the Observatory is definitely worth a visit before or after a walk along the brilliant sandy shore, access to which is opposite the golf club.

just a short drive from the golf club or a nice walk. If you arrive in the evening you may find the picket gate locked. make arrangements to visit. A windy day will bring the birds closer in to land, fantastic views

Great birding and photography spot
May 2017 • Couples
Manned by a couple of local birders this is a must destination for all those interested in wildlife and nature photography- The wildlife is not contained to the hide site as we were close to seals and oystercatchers just outside the hide- The Hide will take no more than 4 inside but there asre spots outside- and dogs are welcome in the hide! Cant say it would be suitable for small children

Fascinating bird watching spot
May 2017 • Couples
Located at a fairly remote point where there is lots of interesting bird and other wildlife, this small observatory has been set up and is run seven days a week from March to October by its warden Eddie Maguire, who is very helpful at pointing out what to see. It is fascinating how much there is to see, and also to see the photos captured by Eddie, which help you to recognise different birds.
