Ruined by commercialisation
Sep 2020 • Couples
Sadly, this once wild and beautiful hiking gem got ruined by commercialisation. Hike-through is not possible anymore, since you can visit the caves on an expensive guided tour only. Ugly out-of-place touristy bar in front. A really sad sight.

Buona visita cnv

cool wander through huge cavern!
Mar 2018 • Friends
This cavern is near to rock climbing and was not what we came for, but what left the biggest impression. It took about half an hour to walk through to the other side of the mountain (bring light!) and then back. It's for sure an amazing place. I wish I had a powerful flashlight with me.

An extraordinary stroll
Sep 2016 • Couples
We had been advised to go here by some local friends but it had always seemed too hot for a walk. So we went the other day when the weather was cooler. It's extraordinary. 840 meters of caves at the foot of the mountain. It is correct that it is not very well lit but please consider there is no charge for the walk through and we are in a poor area of Sardinia. Just take a torch along! At times the width is more than concert hall size. It's a bit spooky to start off with but you soon get used to it. AND, it would be a perfect place for a walk on a hot day as there's a nice, cool breeze that goes all the way through it, despite the winds and turns. Definitely something to do in this area of Sulcis.

Absolutely great

This marvelous natural cave that had once been a road way through the mountain. It is about 850m long with perilous hairpin bends in the midway section! It was closed as a road in 1999, to be honest, I wouldn't have fancied driving through it although to walk through is brilliant.
Stalagmites and stalactites galore, lovely rock formations, a dried river bed (probably wet in different seasons).
On arrival there were a few rock climbers scaling an overhang, we only saw about 3-4 other people on our visit.
I wished we could've been around at dusk to see the bats that can be heard, emerge from the far entrance.
It is also a free attraction (if this was in the UK it would probably be about £10 a head with added parking costs!!!)
Thoroughly recommended if you are in the area.

Worth the stop
Sep 2015 • Couples
We were traveling between hotels on the island and decided to stop. So glad we did. It takes about 30 minutes to walk trough the tunnel and back. To see a cave this close up is quite surreal and the site are amazing. Worth the stop if your passing

Fascinating place!
Aug 2013 • Friends
A diverse cave that will surprise you when you'll see the asphalt road that enter in the cave... yes... through this cave pass an asphalt road that once was a linking road transited by cars and was the only one in Italy and the third in the world to be traveled by car. Today this road is closed for cars but it's possible to be transited on foot or by bicycle. The cave has three levels: the "street" level - 850 m long that is accessible for the tourists and that is entirely crossed by a river. This side has large halls and large concretion pools and unfortunately due to poor administration and human unconsciousness many beautiful concretions was damaged or destroyed. The other two levels of this cave, that make the cave 2000 m long per total, are accessible only by experts.
I think with a good administration and more publicity, this place can attract more tourists.
It worth to be visited!
