Right off the main highway is a fantastic desert slice of culture. Visit in a truck however because the drive can get rough. If you’re interested in miles and miles of beautiful desert, this is the place to find it.

If you are looking for a beautiful place to stretch your legs between Phoenix and Flagstaff and don't want to detour to Sedona, this is the place. Easy walk along a mostly soft dirt/sandy trail. Beautiful scenery.

This is a little known National Momument on Highway 17 north of Phoenix at some 3500 feet.It is open grassland and rocky hills and has some beautiful scenery. Access is via a dirt road off 17 and definitely worth a look on a nice day.
