There really arent words for this island! The pictures of it don't come remotely close to being there and seeing it. Past Shiritani near Yasugiland (spelling?) it was so beautifkl that I felt I was in a magical land out of a storybook that couldnt possibly be real- except that I was standing in it!! Go here if you can-... More

I don't know how to describe this place. It was a fascinating place with beautiful forests, waterfalls, and hot springs, as well as most delightful people. Everyone we met in Yakushima was very nice. They love the island and they want you to enjoy the island. We went there in the middle of Japanease rainy season but luckily we didn't... More

I went for three days and it was far too short. I could have stayed a week and still had more to do. There are so many hiking trails, museums, nature reserves, local hubs and activities such as kayaking to take advantage of. It was absolutely wonderful for a getaway to nature. The trip left me feeling extremely relaxed. The... More

I believe that this is a Incredible Paradise! Although this amazing island is raining nearly 360 days per year, it is quite nature and incredible! 宮﨑駿 created a movie which was called 魔法公主 by this place, but only travel experts or climbers know this secret island, and would like to visit it several times. However, if you wanna visit here... More

best place to explore Japan 'off the beaten track', the most beautiful place for camping, swimming in the sea, hot spots and home to giant turtles.

This was a huge highlight of my trip to Japan. It's a small island south of Kyushu, There are two ways to arrive in Yakushima, either by ferry from Kagoshima; cost is about $90.00 and takes under three hours or by plane from Kagoshima, Fukuoka or Osaka. We flew to Osaka, Itami airport, which was less than 2 hours but... More

I cannot put into words how hard I fell for this island. The mountains, beaches and wild life makes everything so surreal. Renting a car is the best way to get around the island, and visiting this island during winter (December) is a great time as there are not many people and hiking up mountains get a bit easier as... Such a lovely place to relax and explore. Comfortable ferry trip from Kagoshima, with great views of the volcano and other islands en route, then to sleepy little port Anbo. The road goes all the way round the island, with a section between 9.00 and 11.00 that is part of the National Park and subject to certain restrictions, but you... More

simply unbelievable nature! I have traveled tons and never seen a place like this, it looks more like "lord of the rings" type of forest then a real location. It is not the cheapest location and choice of accommodation is limited but so worth it! renting a car is a must!

This unique sub tropical island is a rarity noted by UNESCO World Heritage Nature designation. Great Oceans, beaches and hiking in the mountains with 7000 year old trees covered in moss. Many great hikes, educational centres (museums) wonderful for adults and children.
