Go early if you want to get photos without fellow tourists, most places have maps of what statues are where. The size of some of them is amazing. you can drive to some and have to walk to others. A real bizarre attraction thats worth the time to see

Entertaining and detailed metal artwork that you can get to easily. You can drive by most or drive up to and park, then walk up to and around the different metal art pieces. Good variety. The artist(s) arrangement of the pieces is spread out to get you to go around to find some of them or see them off in the distance. As well, some of the pieces have a theme or motif. Makes a flat part of the desert that has some brush and cacti more interesting.

Great experience driving around and exploring Galleta Meadows. You can drive from statue to statue. There are some spots where you can park your car and walk to different clusters of statues. You can easily spend a few hours here. Pack some lunch and a cooler of soda and enjoy. Also great for pictures and one guy I saw was flying drone! Super cool outing!

The sculptures are located just outside of town on Borrego Spring Rd off of Christmas Circle.
The Chamber of Commerce or the Park Visitor have a guide to show you were the sculptures are located. I love the serpent, it’s huge.

No one expects to find such grand artwork along the desert roadway. These are worth stopping to admire.
The sheer creativity and beauty of each piece is worth spending much more time exploring than we allotted. Give yourself plenty of time to visit all of them, do your internet homework. Plan to spend a fair time at each sculpture, and you'll probably need more than one day to do so. Each is worth the time to admire. We barely had time to stop and admire a few.

So much fun to drive trails to the different amazing metal sculptures and position yourself and your vehicle. Great afternoon experience. Wonder little desert adventure experience. The dinosaurs were not even on our original map. So glad we trekked back to them. It's worth driving off the main road

While on a day trip to Borrego Springs, we kept driving by these large metal sculptures of farm animals, dinosaurs, mythical creatures. We later discovered that there are several spread out over the desert and that you can actually tour them in your car. They are wonderful pieces of art created by a local craftsman that make the desert feel even more 'other worldly.' Definitely worth your time to tour them all. Pick up a map at the visitor center and take lots of pictures!

The metal sculptures were on both sides of the highway, stretching approx a mile. There are dirt roads you can use to pull off the highway, drive over to the sculptures, park, get out and take some photos and then either drive or walk to some of the other sculptures. Most of the sculptures were horses, but there were also dragons and dinasours, etc. Definetly worth a stop and some pics. If you are interested in more of the same, there is a little shop right next to Carlees that sells these metal sculptures.

I had read reviews about the sculpture garden and we were out exploring and ran across the first sculpture. Hubby commented on it and I told him all about the reviews. We stopped off at only one of the statues due to high winds. Really fascinating! Fun surprise!

Interesting sculptures spread out over 9 miles across the desert. I downloaded a map of their locations before visiting, and the town’s Welcome Center also had maps. To get out and see them all will take a couple hours. We were able to drive up to all the sculptures, but like everywhere nowadays, there were signs to practice social distancing.

I’m not sure what the roads / tracks are like - Can you drive round the sculptures in an RV?

We had a 4 wheel drive vehicle but never put it in 4 wheel drive! It is excellent bc u want to be able to get right up next to the sculptures. The day we went there was only like 4 other cars driving around- so it isn’t like a stream of cars going from sculpture to sculpture. You will be so happy that u went. Wish we had stayed to see the night sky! It is a night sky park! Google it- looks amazing!

Hi! About how much time does it take to seem them all? Thanks!

We always do them in small groups so you have more time, we think they always look best around dusk, or even partially dark with the right camera since it’s a dark community
I would guess you need around 2 hours to get them all in, but that to me would feel a little rushed

Is there an entrance fee into the Galleta Meadows?

No fees. The sculptures are placed along the roads and you just pull off the road to see them and drive on to the next one. I have a small car and was a little nervous at getting stuck in the soft sand, but it wasn't a problem.

The sculptures are either visible from the paved road, or a very short distance off the road. (like 100 feet or so).
Most of the time the dirt/sand roads are easily passable by care. This is NOT a 4-wheel drive adventure. Ordinary cars are fine.
I have a couple of suggestions...earlier or later in the day are best for weather and sun. Midday sun is hot and glarey.
Also, bring a camera with a telephoto lens, or some binoculars, and you will probably see more detail than the people who walk right up to them.
I have spend many hours just driving around Borrego Springs and the Anza Borrego desert area, and often never leave the car. It's "desert beautiful".
There sculptures are just a few minutes from Christmas Circle, so they are close to town, and easy to get to.
Last tip...the are in the west end of the valley, and the mountains just to the west cast a long shadow late in the day. It literally gets darker earlier over there. Not a big problem, in fact a benefit when it's hot. But not as good for pictures after the sun dips behind the mountains..
Enjoy!

Who was/are the sculptors? So far I've not seen one word about him/her/them. A breathtaking deficiency on the sites realted to Galleta Meadows. What is the story behind the concept of the sculptures and how, where and when they were constructed?

RICARDO BRECEDA
Born in Durango Mexico, Ricardo has lived in California for the last 25 years.
He has has been creating his (metal) animal kingdom, since the release of the movie Jurassic Park III.
His daughter’s enthusiasm over dinosaurs sparked his interest in the creation of these prehistoric beasts. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion to transform metal into incredible life like creations. Since then Ricardo has become a well known sculptor / designer. One of his largest collections can be appreciated in the city of Borrego Springs California where thousands of people from around the world come to see what everyone is talking about. They find out it is much bigger and amazing than what they have heard.
