Iyasare is a unique Japanese fusion restaurant worth checking out, along with Sur La Table for special kitchen supplies. Garden is expensive with poor after service. Market hall has neat stuff you won't find at Whole Foods. Parking is free

My favorite stores- Miki's, Rabat, Sur la Table. Zut is good, Peet's is good. Park behind 4th st (near the rr tracks) for free.

Great for a stroll near the harbor in this quasi-industrial area. No shortage of coffee, restaurants, shops and arts, including a cooperative with working artist onsite.

I live in Berkely and I used to like going to Forth Street to grab a bite to eat there. When people visited us, we always took them to Fourth Street. There used to be many interesting restaurants and shops there. There used to be street musicians and a fun atmosphere. Sadly, COVID pretty much took care of all of that. The last time my husband and I visited, there were only a few restaurants open. We only liked two of them. Both restaurants were way overpriced and had huge wait times - more than an hour. In both places, the people working at the doors were rude and impatient. Customer service was poor, the siting was crammed, so we got fed up and left, never to return again.

Unless you know the secret peeing spots. The owner of the shopping center doesn't believe that he needs to be responsible for providing bathrooms, therefore, if you have to pee, you're out of luck. Unless you know where to find the bathrooms. So, here's the list.

Peet's - the only one people know about, it's get filthy and is only 1 stall. Useually has a long line in the summer.
Tacubaya - 2 restrooms, hidden in the back of the restaurant. I just walk in and use them, I'm sure they're for customers.
Cafe Rouge - has restrooms in the back, but it's harder to sneak into them
Builders Book Store - it's the best if you have a child that needs a diaper change, it's the only one with a diaper table
The Art Gallary - actually has some restrooms in the back, good hidden secret.

Anyway, the shopping center is a staple for me as I go there to buy coffee from Peets and crickets for my lizards at the varvarium.

Fourth Street is a very fun place to visit. Berkeley's best breakfast diner just might be Bette's Ocean View Diner; the Crate and Barrel outlet is great; Sur la tab is there, Cafe Rouge is terrific. The street is polka-dotted with very expensive stores (Whoa! See The Garden!) and other unusual stores. It is diverse and colorful. Lovely at Christmas.

You would think that the upscale merchants of Fourth Street could come up with a way to provide access to bathrooms. On a recent visit there, the only one we could find was at the coffee shop, and there was a frickin 20 minute wait to use that one because of the long line that had developed. We were first directed to the bathroom at Sur la Table, but it was "out-of-order" and appears to have been "out-of-order" for an extended period of time. We bought nothing and went home. The fourth street merchants need to do a lot better.

Nice strip in the middle of Berkeley, would be nicer if there were more pedestrian areas. Restaurants and cafes are expensive, but a nice place in this area of Berkeley.

Lots of various shops to peruse (from beauty shops to furniture shops) and restaurants to try. Great ambience and well loved given the Parking can be an issue at times but it is all worth it to pay a visit, especially on the weekends when mobile vendors appear on the sidewalk.
