Seems to represent Berkeley, with interesting shops to browse, good eating options and very lively. Anyone visiting Berkeley has to explore Shattuck Avenue to really know the city.

Driving from one end to the other reinforced the point that in many parts Berkeley is quite ordinary. It is only in a relatively short section in downtown that the street impresses with an interesting quirky charm.

After exiting Downtown Berkeley BART subway system you will be on Shattuck Avenue with a delightful 1/2 day ahead of you. Walk south on one side of the street and sight see the "only in Berkeley" cast of characters playing music, preaching, or just hanging...More

We enjoyed walking up and down the street. It's easy to get to the BART. There were numerous restaurants and quirky shops to stop in.

Shattuck to me is the place to find the best food at Chez Panisse or the best coffee in Berkeley right across the street at the old French Hotel. The Imperial Tea Court upstairs, above Chez Pannis is a hidden gem with it's beautiful little...More

Lots of inexpensive ethnic restaurants, many aimed at the student crowd. Some bookstores and a few interesting shops. Some movie theaters and a couple of major performance theaters are nearby. Lots of food traffic. Transit hubs. Too many street people, especially young drifters.

If you want to get to know Berkeley quickly, just take a long walk down this street...you can "recover" with a drink at Chez Panisse restaurant.

Wide variety of unusual shops and exotic food places. You could eat out every day for a week and not cover all the different type of restaurants.

This picture is of Chez Panisse on Shattuck so I assume we mean the Berkeley North Side. Many good restaurants, including Cheese Board Pizza (with live music many evenings of the week), Mint Leaf, Barneys Burgers, Asian vegetarian, more Thai on the corner, etc. Chez...More

I'm not sure. I would go to the website and look at the menus and make that decision.
